AHMED ESSYAD - Moroccan Electroacoustic Music 1972-74 LP (sub rosa - Composer Ahmed Essyad was born in Salé, Morocco, in 1938. After studying music at the Rabat Conservatoire (Morocco) he moved to Paris in 1962, where he became a student of Max Deutsch and, later, his assistant. Trained in the avant-garde practices of Western musical composition, he also claimed the Amazigh folk music of Morocco as a fundamental source of inspiration for his work. In 1965, he was already incorporating elements of oral tradition in his work so as to question the language of his time, and therefore had to cope with the limits of musical notation and communication with musicians who did not share his cultural references. It was difficult to agree on what was implicit, 'behind the notes,' especially regarding the management of musical time and micro-intervals. In search of new compositional tools, he turned to electro-acoustic music. Working in a studio made it possible for him to be the interpreter of his own work, which ensured a certain continuity with music of oral tradition. The pieces presented here were produced between 1972 and 1974 in a studio dedicated to electro-acoustic music, the S.M.E.C.A, which was part of the Music Workshop founded by Jorge Arriagada in Paris. The studio was equipped with EMS and Minimoog synthesizers, a piano, a marimba, a xylophone, as well as various percussion instruments and a tape delay system.) 25.00

ALVA NOTO - Xerrox Vol.5 DLP (Noton - In an emotionally lush 5th volume, Carsten Nicolai completes the acclaimed Xerrox series of conceptual image-to-sound recordings with a romantic, richly melodic finale that epitomises his solo work’s clinamen from coldly mechanical and nanoscopic to warmer, widescreen themes since initiating the series in 2005.  RIYL Gas, Lawrence English, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Biosphere, Michael Nyman. During the mid-late ‘90s and thru the turn of the millennium, Carsten Nicolai’s Alva Noto was a major proponent of minimalist music that harnessed glitches - ostensibly unwanted parts of electronic recording processes - to austere and precise, if beautiful, ends, both solo, and in collaboration with pianist composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, as well as Mika Vainio and others. As that project pushed the concept to a creative cul-de-sac, from 2005/06 Carsten Nicolai continued to evolve his music into more spacious, vaporous designs that swept across the frequency spectrum in swooning, avant and ambient neo-classical adjacent zones without losing sight of his fine sculpted minimalism and conceptual processes. ) 30.00

CASSIE RAMONE - Sweetheart LP (Sweetheart is the first Cassie Ramone album in ten years, a crowning glory for a singular artist who has forged a unique path through the underground. Breaking out in the late 00s with the revered Vivian Girls, to her current status as a traveler on the
heartworn highway, Cassie Ramone has survived and thrived. Sweetheart is Ramone's greatest recorded statement to date:focused songwriting shot through with American tragedies, distorted guitars and tear-stained fretboards. Recorded with collaborator Dylan White in Richmond, VA in the latter's Valley Structures barn studio between December 2023 and March 2024, Sweetheart is Ramone's songwriting rendered direct but with a sweeping cinematic quality. Smeared with reverb and scintillating like stars in the pitch black night, these songs fulfill the promise of Ramone's songwriting prowess. Ranging from heart-stealers like I'm Going Home or Joy to the World to the riotous guitar scree of the titular Sweetheart, Ramone's songwriting here is raw and direct, bolstered by White's perfectly balanced instrumentation. White's work on Sweetheart blows up Ramone's songs to epic proportions, with waves of shoegazed guitars crashing and cresting with emotion. As a result, Sweetheart fits effortlessly in with the best of Ramone's work with Vivian Girls and The Babies. With the emotional vulnerability at its core, Sweetheart is Cassie Ramone emerging as one of the most honest and vital songwriters of the underground. Sweetheart, released on White and Ramone's new CD-R Records, builds on Cassie Ramone's legacy as a DIY pioneer. With Vivian Girls, Ramone and her bandmates forged a distinctive sound from 80s Punk, Shoegaze and 60s Girl Groups, delivering it with a dedication to world-building and Do It Yourself pragmatism. CD-Records and this first release are a continuation of Ramone's mission to maintain creative and aesthetic control over her art, communicating directly and honestly. Sweetheart may also be the best record of her career. Released on Cassie Ramone and Dylan White's label CD-R Records) 30.00

DECIMA VICTIMA - Décima Víctima LP (munster - Decima Victima were a Spanish band that, during their short-lived career between 1981 and 1984, developed a very personal sound reminiscent of Joy Division, The Cure and other British post-punk bands. Despite commercial success evaded them, rarely has any Spanish band achieved such a high degree of quality and coherence in their music and personality.) 28.00

DECIMA VICTIMA - Un Hombre Solo LP (munster - Decima Victima were a Spanish band that, during their short-lived career between 1981 and 1984, developed a very personal sound reminiscent of Joy Division, The Cure and other British post-punk bands. Despite commercial success evaded them, rarely has any Spanish band achieved such a high degree of quality and coherence in their music and personality. Although included in our past release MR 305 (2010) as part of a limited edition boxset, this is the first time their second album “Un Hombre Solo” (1984) gets an official reissue in its original single LP format.) 28.00

DON CHERRY OKAY TEMIZ - Music For Turkish Theater 1970 LP (Gatefold sleeve w/ obi - Never-before-released recording of the sensational and banned Turkish Theater Play by James Baldwin and Engin Cezzar, Istanbul 1970. Licensed by Gökhan Akçura, author of Engin Cezzar's autobiography, who was personally entrusted with the original master tape by Engin Cezzar. An unearthed free jazz masterpiece from 1970s Istanbul. "One of the most shocking and daring plays staged in Turkish theaters was banned by the Istanbul Governorship on February 7, 1970. The ban on the play, which was watched by 30,000 people in 60 days, did not last long." - Turkish Press, 1970 - Meticulously restored from the original master tape, remastered and cut by Shawn Joseph at Optimum Mastering, Bristol, UK. Includes liner notes by Zeynep Oral (James Baldwin's assistant and journalist), Gökhan Akçura, Okay Temiz, and record producer Erinç Güzel (Caz Plak İstanbul). In 1970, Turkish theater owner Engin Cezzar produced James Baldwin's groundbreaking play about gay relationships in a 1970s Istanbul prison setting. In 1969, jazz musician Don Cherry, visiting Istanbul with Okay Temiz to record an album, reunited with Baldwin and contributed music to the production. The recording session followed extensive discussions and featured performances by Cherry and Temiz, heightening the play's tension.) 30.00

ELECTRIC WIZARD - Black Magic Rituals & Perversions Vol. 1 DLP (For a soundtrack to the end of the world, there is no band better than Electric Wizard. As the COVID pandemic took hold in 2020 and lockdown restricted movement to your immediate surrounds, the legendary British doom outfit wondered if they might ever play live again. Out in the wilds of the English Westcountry where singer/guitarist Jus Oborn and guitarist Liz Buckingham live, the band descended into their crypt-like jam space to make a live album like no other. With no audience, and no actual plan to release what they came out with, they recorded themselves into a 16-track tape machine to capture their essence, their malevolence, their heaviness.) 36.00

GREG FOAT - The Glass Frog LP (Large group session featuring deep spiritual modal jazz and new age ambient synthesizer pads. Greg Foat is one of the UK’s leading jazz pianists and composers. He has recorded prolifically in recent years for Jazzman Records, Athens Of The North and, most recently, for Strut, switching effortlessly from soul-jazz fusions to cinematic, haunting compositions, pastoral acid folk and electronic soundscapes.) 34.00

GREG FOAT - The Rituals of Infinity LP (London-based keyboardist and composer Greg Foat is back with his new album, 'The Rituals of Infinity'. Greg's first memory with the piano goes all the way back to his Aunt's house at aged 3 - where he fell off the piano stool. Since then, his relationship with the piano has evolved into a fulfilling, and successful career. He began taking an interest in composing at the age of 11, and truly ignited his love for Jazz after attending a workshop with Jeff Clyne, Olaf Vas, Trevor Tomkins and Nick Weldon at the age of 15. He then studied jazz at Middlesex University, followed by 6 months in Sweden on an Erasmus grant which lead to his first professional studio session there at 21. Greg has worked as a professional musician ever since, and has moulded a wonderfully multifaceted career within the Jazz music genre. Greg is planning a debut performance of 'The Rituals of Infinity' at Worthy Earth Festival in late September, in Hampshire.) 38.00

THE HATED - Flux DLP (numero - The final recordings by Annapolis early emo pioneers the Hated, Flux compiles their 1989 acoustic and electric sessions, home demos, and live shards from their extensive archive. The accompanying 24-page book outlines the last year of the band with essays from founders Dan Littleton and Erik Fisher, a track-by-track oral history, photos, flyers, and lyrics from this vital post-hardcore unit. "Hostile and magnetic—like perfume wafting through a barbed wire fence."— Washington Post) 33.00

KARL D'SILVA - Love Is A Flame In The Dark LP (night school - Love Is A Flame In The Dark is the debut album by experimental songwriter Karl D’Silva. A raw labour of love, a towering spire of twisted steel, tenderness and becoming, it’s a body of songs that belies the virtuoso talents of an artist whose reputation has been built on collaborating with various avant garde underground luminaries. Self-recorded at home in Rotherham and pulsing with the conviction of a true believer, these songs burst out of their self-consciousness to meet life head on, bristling with energy, 10 glimpses of the human spirit in the darkness. Recorded throughout 2021 - 2023 and mixed in Leeds with engineer Ross Halden, D’Silva has constructed a Pop language for himself. Mutated songs that owe a small debt to the post-Industrial music of Cabaret Voltaire, Nine Inch Nails and Coil, they’re nonetheless powered by a vigorous tenderness, earnestness and D’Silva’s knack for melody. Each song is meticulously sound-designed, using synthesised sounds created from scratch married with D’Silva’s virtuoso playing on saxophone and guitar. The songs on Love Is A Flame In The Dark are unabashed, earnest love letters to living, requiems for a world fading away and small gestures of solidarity in the face of entropy.) 30.00

KATH BLOOM - Finally LP (chapter - Compilation of 90s/00s recordings, released originally on cassette, CD-R or previously unreleased. First released in 2005, Finally was seminal folk cult figure Kath Bloom’s return to active musical duty, her first officially released album since 1984.  The daughter of world famous oboist Robert Bloom, Kath grew up in New Haven, CT, where she started playing guitar among the headstones of her local cemetery as a teenager. She met avant-garde guitarist Loren Maz- zacane Connors in 1976 and together they recorded six limited edition albums of fragile folk and blues melodies, ending with final album Moon- light in 1984. Chapter Music has re-released four of these albums - Sing The Children Over, Sand In My Shoe, Restless Faithful Desperate and Moonlight - as a pair of two disc sets.) 27.00

LICE - Third Time At The Beach LP (AD93 - Formed in Bristol, 4-piece LICE have become one of UK experimental rock’s most inventive and ambitious outliers. Their second album Third Time At The Beach – a three-part epic exploring our struggle to better understand the world around us via AD 93. Darting between minimalism, rock, techno and more, it sends us hurtling us through time and space: featuring a cast of astronauts, cavemen and dinosaurs. This follows LICE’s internationally acclaimed debut album WASTELAND: What Ails Our People Is Clear (2021). Praised as “exciting, alive, packed with musical ideas” by Financial Times and “a welcome lease of life for British avant-rock that plays with expectation at every turn” by CRACK, it also gained radio support across BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 1 and KEXP. The album led LICE to perform at major festivals including Reading & Leeds, Green Man and End Of The Road, embark on an extensive EU tour supporting Sleaford Mods, and tour across the UK & EU. ) 28.00

MEROPE - Vejula LP (stroom - Merope's most experimental and open-minded full length to date, Vejula is a celebration of collaboration and playfulness, and features appearances from Shahzad Ismaily, Laraaji and Bill Frisell. Like its predecessors, the duo's fifth album still roots itself in Lithuanian folk forms, but sprouts out spiritedly from that point into unfamiliar landscapes, muddling ancient themes with contemporary philosophies, concepts and technology. Delicate instrumental sequences and ethereal vocals are woven into a rich tapestry of subtle synth work and evocative field recordings. On 'Kouma lil', Indre Jurgeleviciute and Bert Cools experiment with digital images of the kankles (a traditional Lithuanian chordophone), and Jurgeleviciute's voice, blurring the boundary between the organic and the artificial, while on 'Suiakmo, French percussionist Toma Gouband adds percussion from his custom-made sounding stones to Jurgeleviciute's gentle words and Cools' surreal, sensuous electronics. 'Vejula' is an album that reaches into the unknown without loosing its tight grip on the past. Merope are in a new creative phase of their career, and they've never sounded quite so universal, or so vital.) 30.00

MILAN W. - Leave Another Day LP (stroom -2nd press, already sold-out at the label. Low-lit, introspective, grey-scale indie from Belgian artist Milan W for Nosedrip’s indispensable Stroom label. Harnessing that tricky to articulate ‘down but not out’ aesthetic that’s so key to the Stroom label, Milan’s beautifully crafted songs seep with a strong feeling of bittersweet heartbreak, sorrow and contemplation.  It’s a faultless suite of spindly / spangled indie-pop gems laced with shimmering hooks, warm flourishes of melody and endearingly accented English vocals that’s sure to chip away at even the most stone-hearted.  It’s a sound that feels tricky to place, obviously new but could easily sit anywhere within the last 30 years - Milan’s floating yet overcast sound feels very fitting for the perma-gloom of our familiar Manchester skies whilst evoking pensive walks down windswept walks on the Belgian coast.  The sound of heartache, redemption and reconciliation, done to perfection.  One of the very best for some time. (AllNightFlights)) 32.00

MUSLIMGAUZE - Rhiza Coil Of Resin LP (»Rhiza Coil Of Resin« was originally released by Staalplaat as a part of the 9xCD box-set »Box Of Silk And Dogs« in 1999. Explosive drum'n'bass(y) sans break beats. Muslimgauze sharpens an innocuous set of North African wind instruments with an acid-edge. Themes from »Narcotic« are revisited.) 25.00

NATURE'S CONSORT - s/t LP (Aguirre - Obscure & outstanding free jazz album reissued for the first time since it’s original release in 1969. Old-style Gatefold LP, with liner notes by Ed Hazell In the late 1960s, young jazz musician Bobby Naughton, a keyboardist and vibraphonist, faced significant challenges as he sought to record his first album. With major record labels and jazz clubs catering only to big names, Naughton and other creative musicians of his generation found themselves sidelined by the mainstream music industry. They turned to self-reliance and self-production, becoming part of a movement of independent musicians. Naughton’s debut album, Nature’s Consort, was a DIY effort in every sense—recorded on home equipment and featuring a hand-printed woodblock cover. The album was distributed independently at concerts and by mail, receiving little attention initially, but over the years it gained a reputation as a rare, sought-after artifact of the period.) 31.00

NILS FRAHM - Paris DLP (Leiter - Recorded at the Philharmonie de Paris and one and a half years after releasing his magnum opus "Music For Animals"—described by PopMatters as “a musical waterfall of monumental proportions”—Nils Frahm shares a new live album via his LEITER label. In what’s becoming a tradition, it follows 2013’s "Spaces", a Pitchfork Album of the Year taped at shows over the preceding 18 months, and 2020’s "Tripping With Nils Frahm", also released as a film. "Paris", nonetheless, is Frahm’s first live album from a single night, March 21, 2024, and contains ten tracks over a running time of 84 minutes. Frahm’s performances have always been known for expanding upon his studio recordings, and "Paris" is no exception. Drawing on his substantial catalogue, the German composer and producer reworks tracks from various albums, and also adds the brand new, luxurious and strangely gripping ‘Opera’ to the track list.) 36.00

NOAH HOWARD - Patterns LP (Aguirre - Classic free jazz album reissued for the first time since the 70s. Old-style Gatefold LP, with liner notes by Ed Hazell. Noah Howard, an alto saxophonist and composer, was known for weaving intricate and innovative musical patterns, often likening his work to "sound paintings." His 1971 album Patterns, the first LP he self-produced on his Altsax label, stands as a testament to his experimental and spiritual approach to music. In interviews, Howard frequently used visual terms like "patterns" and "shapes" to describe his compositions, emphasizing the importance of melody and structure even in highly improvisational settings. For Howard, patterns and melodies were essential to guiding listeners through his explorations without alienating them, maintaining a balance between innovation and accessibility.) 31.00

SARINE - Asas Terrenas LP (futura - Mariano Melo, aka Marian Sarine, is a Brazilian multi-instrumentalist based in São Paulo, specialising in percussion and drums. Known for his drumming with the band DEAFKIDS and his solo work as Sarine, Mariano's latest album, “Asas Terenas,” features his first recordings under this name. The album began with organ themes recorded with Felipe Pato at the end of 2019, with additional instruments added throughout 2020 and 2021. As Sarine himself says, “Asas Terenas” is a sonic mixture that moves the feet and lifts the soul—creating an experience that is both pristine in sound and transcendental on the dancefloor. The music is built on a modal approach, using scales as a launchpad to create free-flowing, rhythmic improvisations over dynamic interplay between notes and percussion. Inspired by artists like Charanjit Singh, who blended traditional North-Indian ragas with electronic music, as well as African organists and synth players such as Hailu Mergia, Mammane Sani, and Hama, it combines old and new sounds, merging spiritual feelings with energetic rhythms.) 28.00

THE SOUNDCARRIERS - Through Other Reflections LP (PhosphonicLTD PINK VINYL REPRESS It’s abundantly clear from the first bars of their 5th studio album Through Other Reflection, that this is, and could only ever be, The Soundcarriers. From the enchanting vocal duets of folk-bidden Chanteuses Leonore Wheatley and Dorian Conway; to the precise bass lines of Paul Isherwood and the limber, jazz-cool, Hal Blaine-esque drums of his his co-songwriter Adam Cann; from the fairy-like flutes, 60s-garage guitars and organ sounds pilfered from the archives of exotica - listening to the Soundcarriers resembles a rediscovery of all the most prized, esoteric corners of the 1960s, all bundled up, warped and refracted through the quartet’s astutely modern cultural lens. Channelling Tropicalia, Middle Eastern psychedelic Jazz/Funk, The French Library sounds of Nino Nardini, and a whole host of lavish obscurites beside, Through Other Reflection delivers another sonic adventure from one of the most unique and distinctive voices of British Psychedelia. After an 8 year wait for their album 4 - 2022’s Wilds - it thankfully didn’t take so long for the follow-up this time round. In many ways, this feels like a companion to Wilds; recording again at their Nottingham warehouse studio, Through Other Reflection retains that same organic glow, all the passions and imperfections of a tightly clipped unit jamming out these living, breathing pop-art nuggets as if straight onto the acetate.”We wanted to keep an air of spontaneity with this album and not get too bogged with the recording process”, explains Cann, “It was more a case of getting the songs as tightly written and arranged as possible first so we could get them down quickly in the studio. It always takes longer than you think”) 30.00

THELONIOUS MONK - Live In Paris (1966) - Lost ORTF Recordings LP (transversales - A unique pianist and composer, Thelonious Monk (1917-1982) is one of the greatest jazz legends of all time. Thelonious is surrounded by his legendary quartet featuring Charlie Rouse (tenor saxophone), Larry Gales ( double bass) and Ben Riley (drums). First ever official release of this lost ORTF recording performed live in Paris at Studio 104, Maison de la Radio. Remastered from original tapes in high resolution.) 34.00

TROTH & JON COLLIN - Devotion Objects LP (a colourful storm - Debut collaborative album from Troth, the Nipaluna-based duo of Amelia Besseny and Cooper Bowman, and kindred spirit and legendary Mancunian free-form guitarist Jon Collin. A lavish dreamscape conjuring the dramatic beauty of uncharted mountains and streams, it documents both the crystilisation of ideas first shared during an Australian encounter in early 2023 and years of mutual appreciation. Troth’s sonic universe, a constellation of drifting atmospherics, bedroom pop impulse and modern classical motifs, is deeply intimate and never rushed. Recent sides Forget The Curse and Idle Easel and live performances supporting the likes of Maxine Funke and Treasury of Puppies have seen Besseny’s soaring, celestial voice take centre stage, delicately adorned with Bowman’s synthesiser flourishes and homespun instrumentation. At their heart lies Bowman’s tireless collaborative instinct: his decade-long involvement in the Australian underground and his countless musical outfits (including contemporary trio Th Blisks, with Besseny and Yuta Matsumura).) 25.00

V/A - Taco City Rockers #3 20 San Antonio Punk Bands 1979-2023 LP (Nice little compilation with lesser known punk bands from San Antonio.) 25.00
