ADVENTURE TEAM - In Giraffe LP (Just east of Dusseldorf in Germany sits Wuppertal – a city mostly known for its invention of aspirin tablets and the operation of one of only two suspended monorail’s in the world: the Schwebebahn. The monorail floats above the city centre, weaving through roads and rivers and…cars full of power pop stars from Berlin’s DIY underground. It’s mid May and Jonathan, Ian and Juan – alongside a few amps and guitars – are crammed into a blue Volkswagen Caddy with the Schwebebahn overhead (and thirteen hours to go until they reach their destination). The journey itself, which takes a little over seventeen hours either way, consists mostly of South American mate and a master-list of records rattling through the radio: Teenage Fanclub, The Clean, Yo La Tengo. Adventure Team are going to make a record so good that all of the nights spent in roadside motels will be nothing but a distant memory.) 18.00
AI ASO - Lone LP (ideologic organ - 2024 Limited edition LP & CD reissues of this cult minimalist pop album by japanese singer songwriter Ai Aso, originally released in 2014 on Ideologic Organ. Tokyo's Ai Aso (???, Aso Ai) is a Japanese psychedelic pop singer-songwriter whose work has a whisper-thin acid folk quality to it. She started performing as a solo singer around 2000. Her solo work, infrequent collaborations with White Heaven members You Ishihara and Michio Kurihara, Yurayura Teikoku, and Boris bring a level of fragility and hypnotism to the stage recalling lost memories, small flavors of COIL and serial playing on the verge of evaporation. As for her recent activities, she has performed on bills together with Sunn O))), Boris, Masaki Batoh (Ghost), Touri Kudoh, Kim Doo Soo, Mark Fry, Simon Finn etc.) 28.00
ANJA HUWE - Codes LP (sacred bones - Unexpected, but long overdue: "Codes" - the solo album by ANJA HUWE - the return of the "Ice Queen". The internationally successful band XMAL DEUTSCHLAND with its singer and front woman ANJA HUWE released four albums and numerous singles in the 1980s on renowned British labels such as 4AD, Beggar's Banquet and on their own label X-ile. The band recorded four John Peel sessions on BBC 1 and toured worldwide. XMAL DEUTSCHLAND, initially an "all girl band", were role models for the emerging Gothic/Darkwave scene and inspiration for young female musicians to pursue their goals self-determinedly and consistently. After the band broke up in the early 1990s, HUWE went new ways as a visual artist. Her main theme of "synesthesia" - hearing colors and seeing sounds - has been a common thread through her artistic work ever since.) 27.00
ANUSHKA CHKHEIDZE - Clean Clear White LP (ISA - Having flown in from Tbilisi, Anushka Chkheidze found herself completely alone inside the empty and as yet unoccupied University of Basel's Biozentrum: just her, a piano, and the surrounding spaces. Over a two-week period the young Georgian musician and composer was able to explore the building, designed by Ilg Santer architects, with the piano, microphones, a mixing deck, a computer, and her voice. She also assembled a small choir from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis music academy in Basel, who performed in an auditorium in the basement. Anushka used her field recordings and compositional ideas from her on-site sessions to create the music for this album in the studio in Tbilisi, Georgia. The eight tracks are an acoustic and associative journey through the Biozentrum with a nonvisual form of perception: she encountered eight very different places in the building, and the spatial acoustics and nonvisible interior spaces all play their part.'Clean Clear White' was mixed by Taylor Deupree (Pound Ridge, New York), mastered by Christoph Stickel (Vienna), cut by Sidney Claire Meyer at Emil Berliner Studios (Berlin), and pressed on 180 gram black vinyl by Optimal Media (Röbel/Müritz) with love and care to audiophile standards.) 21.00
ASPHALT GRAVES - The New Primitive LP (vitriol - Featuring members or ex-members of Misery Index, Dying Fetus, War Torn, GWAR, and The Black Dahlia Murder, this thing shreds from front to back in the classic death-grind style supreme. Thirteen tracks of politically abusive and bleakly literate critique.) 20.00
BRANNTEN SCHNÜRE - Aprilnacht LP (Aguirre - Originally released on tape by SicSic in 2014, Aprilnacht commemorates a decade of music from Brannten Schnüre and marked the spring in a tetralogy of albums about the four seasons when it came out. Back then the Würzburg-based project consisted solely of Christian Schoppik, who later welcomed Katie Rich to take over the vocals. He used to perform as Agnes Beil, but dropped the name when, while making this album realized his music was becoming "much gentler and more fragile". Aprilnacht already captured the particular musical ideas that Schoppik would thoroughly keep exploring, delving deeper and deeper into the use and manipulation of samplers from sources so diverging as to wander between the five continents to post-war German family television and cult cinema. Heir of the ritualistic intensity of Coil, of the intricate sampler assemblies of Ghédalia Tazartès', and of the dusty, dismal old ballads from around the world, Brannten Schnüre manages to make these paths cross in a territory that is as inherent as it is uncanny; sieged by the past and intimate as a hearth. An organic approach to folk, ambient, and sound collage, where ethereal yet thoroughly textured pieces coalesce in enthralling, delicate, and innermost musical rituals.) 26.00

THE CATS MIAOW - Skipping Stones: The Cassette Years ‘92-’93 DLP (world of echo - the cat’s miaow return to world of echo with skipping stones: the cassette years ’92-’93, their second compilation for the imprint, and the fourth in a loosely defined series of reissues associated with the group (also including the shapiros’ gone by fall: the collected works of the shapiros and hydroplane’s selected songs 1997-2003). it’s a smart selection of songs by one of australia’s finest independent pop music groups, whose initial run, across the nineties, was as mysterious as it was bewitching. a generous double album featuring thirty-five songs drawn from the cat’s miaow’s history, skipping stones lets listeners in on a bunch more secrets.
an even deeper pass through the archives of the cat’s miaow, skipping stones is a welcome follow-up to 2022’s songs ’94-’98, which pulled together material from seven-inch singles and compilations. diving into the four cassettes that the group released over a two-year period, skipping stones is full of surprises, rich with unexpected and inspired detours, while reminding everyone just how clear and distinct the cat’s miaow’s music was from the very start. looking in from the outside, they always felt like a group that knew just what they were doing, but intuitive as they are, they weren’t forcing anything: these songs always sound exactly what they need to be, rough edges, playful moments and all.) 35.00

Rosaly was born and raised in Arizona, but spent the better part of his prolific career working on the Chicago jazz and improvised music scene where, in many ways, he himself defined the sound of the free jazz scene, for a particular era. The two artists connected in Amsterdam in 2015, where they now live together, and work in many capacities across music, theatre, performance art, dance, and community organizing.) 28.00

JONNY BENAVIDEZ - My Echo, Shadow And Me LP (daptone - In cooperation with Timmion Records, Daptone Records is pleased to release the debut album from the "soulful Chicano Brothers" Jonny Benavidez! A native of San Diego (via El Paso, TX), Jonny was influenced in his desire to sing by his grandfather, John Lorenzo Guzman, who spent time as a teenager in the early '60s harmonizing with groups in El Paso, most notably Sonny Powell & The Night Dreamers. When he was 13, Jonny was given a record player and a box full of R&B, doo-wop and soul 45s, which he studied obsessively, using the harmonies and melodies within to cultivate his own unique voice. After a chance encounter with the legendary Dimas Garza, Jonny's career began to take off and he was soon singing alongside stars such as Eugene Pitt and Archie Bell, attracting the interest of Timmion Records. With the support of Cold Diamond & Mink (Bobby Oroza, Pratt & Moody), two incredibly successful singles were released and plans were made for a full album, culminating in 11 original songs written by Benavidez. A must for fans of Daptone, Timmion, Penrose and others.) 28.00
KULKU - Reset To Be LP (Kulku return to Phase Group with the release of their new album 'Reset To Be’ Formed in Berlin at the turn of the millennium, Kulku have evolved as a highly unique and free-formed collective of musicians that make trance-inducing, jazz-entwined, percussive and soulful (mostly) acoustic music that takes cues from the rhythmic propulsion of Jaki Leibezeit’s Can, the street-folk of Moondog, the minimalism of Steve Reich, and the droning rock n’ roll of the Velvet Underground, forming a sound that they themselves have coined ‘No-Age Krautrock’.
Following on from last year’s sold out debut LP ‘Fahren', 'Reset To Be’ offers 5 new songs across 2 sides of vinyl. This is a record that perfectly showcases the unique identity the band have been developing over the past 20 years, a sound crafted through experimentation and innovation with primarily acoustic instruments; droning harmoniums, repetitive and phasing xylophones, timpani, cello, scrap metal and woodwind reeds, all sitting alongside soulful saxophone and the voice of frontman Andreas Riska, singing in both German and English.) 20.00
THE MYSTIC TIDE - Frustration LP (numero - A raw-nerved hybrid of elemental Merseybeat, lugubrious surf-noir and sheer sonic assault, the remarkable legacy of Long Island's Mystic Tide has long been venerated within the '60s garage rock pantheon, even if their existential racket only slipped out on a series of painfully rare 45s. Now, the fruit of Joe Docko Jr and friends' cottage industry has been refurbished in best-ever sound, along with fresh insights as to how this singular brand of noise came to be.) 28.00
PEDRO VIAN - Earth, Our Planet? LP (modern obscure music - “Earth, Our Planet?”: A call for environmental awareness. This time, Pedro Vian - the founder of Modern Obscure Music - presents his fourth solo album (following his 2020 release, "Ibillorca"). Due for release in spring 2024, "Earth, Our Planet?" promises to immerse us in a moving odyssey, crossing the boundaries of musical genres to provoke an urgent meditation on the protection of our planet. On this occasion Vian has composed the album influenced by the myth of the eternal return, the compositions are long and repetitive, generating states of pure trance. Pedro Vian, singular for his fusion of genres and styles, ventures into even more complex territories in "Earth, Our Planet?". From the first listen, it is evident that this work treads the line of convention and breaks the boundaries of electronic and experimental music with artistic dexterity. The album weaves together texture, hypnotic rhythms and melody. Each track reveals his distinctive ability to create immersive landscapes, guiding the listener into deep emotional introspection. This is not just music; it is a transformative experience.) 28.00
PISSED JEANS - Half Divorced LP (sub pop - Limited "Loser Edition" on "Coke Bottle Green" vinyl. PISSED JEANS have never been a band that does things by halves - they're known for their ferocious vocals, their biting lyrics, their buzzsaw guitars and their boisterous live shows, and their sixth album "Half Divorced" is no exception. The songs skewer the tension between youthful optimism and the sobering reality of adulthood, and when viewed through frontman Matt Korvette's scowl, everything is presented on a level of violent absurdity. This is how Korvette growls in "Seatbelt Alarm Silencer": "Call it a death drive but that ain't fair / Drive implies I'm headed somewhere." So where does a band like PISSED JEANS go after almost twenty years of making music, after becoming fathers, after getting married and after getting divorced? Existence has solidified to a boiling point. Korvette says, "Half Divorced has an aggression in it that says I don't want this reality. There's a power in being able to say, I realize you want me to pay attention to these things, but I'm telling you they're not important. I'm already looking elsewhere." Even in the brutality that Korvette conjures up in songs like "Killing All the Wrong People" ("If violence is now their form of play / Let's aim 'em towards those who made 'em that way""), the energy of some of this is Songs unintentionally, well, funny. When you listen to this album, even the most hardened nine-to-fiver has the feeling that unrestricted freedom is still possible. And who else rhymes "colonizer" with "moisturizer"? "We're not the kind of band that puts out a new record every two years," says Korvette. "PISSED JEANS is really like an art project for us, and that's what makes it that way funny." This lack of restraint runs rampant in the songs, which unexpectedly veer into classic hardcore punk territory - often they're less than two minutes long and erupt like the Corvette's "Butane Tank Explosion" in "Junktime " sings.) 30.00
SISSI RADA - Aporia LP (stroom - LTD to 400 copies - Sissi Rada's humble manifestations of the miracle of life, the troubles of love, the thoughts that span through a human mind while performing simple tasks, educated by her love and natural inclination to poetry, read like small vignettes, or marginalia notes on a diary that is of constant flux. Recorded, mixed and produced by Sissi alone, in her Athens’ home, using a spartan but powerful instrumentation of harp, a Prophet synthesizer, and first and foremost her intimate and enchanting voice, ‘
Aporia’ stands out with its simplicity and familiarity, like a page out of a diary, shared with a blush and a witty smile.") 30.00
THE SPACE LADY - The Space Lady’s Other Hits LP (night people - Mini LP, LTD 500 , Clear Vinyl - RSD 2024, Since her re-discovery in 2013 via cult favourite The Space Lady’s Greatest Hits, The Space Lady’s mission of galactic peace and celestial harmony has grown into a world-wide underground phenomenon. Recorded in 1990, The Space Lady’s original repertoire is a parallel universe greatest hits: songs familiar are transmogrified into shimmering bliss while new compositions amplify the message. The Space Lady’s Other Hits, released on April 20th for Record Store Day 2024, constitutes the songs recorded by Susan “The Space Lady” Dietrich Schneider as part of that repertoire that never made the original Greatest Hits, save for a limited bonus CD on the first CD pressing. Remastered by Mikey Love for vinyl, The Space Lady’s Other Hits completes the picture.) 30.00
TERMINAL NATION - Echoes Of The Devil's Den LP (20 buck spin - Since the release of the first Terminal Nation album "Holocene Extinction" in 2020, the divisions in the USA have only widened, the fronts have hardened and compromises are no longer an option. The band's scorching new album Echoes Of The Devil's Den embodies this seething rage, arriving once again on the eve of a recurring nightmare election cycle featuring fossilized relics from the 20th century. At its core, Terminal Nation's essence is unabashedly heavy mid-tempo riffing and bulldozing breakdowns taken to new levels of extreme brutality - over which Stan Liszewski's venomous voice radiates the seething rage of a population at the end of its patience. But beyond this foundation, Terminal Nation's songwriting has evolved considerably, as evidenced by songs like 'Embers of Humanity', which incorporates an epic heavy metal flavor into its ballads and builds to a stadium banger. On the single 'Merchants of Bloodshed' the band sprinkles in anthemic, almost radio-friendly clean vocals from Jesse Leach (Killswitch Engage) - just one of many guest appearances on the album.) 28.00
THOU - Blessings of the Highest Order DLP (sacred bones - Blessings of the Highest Order compiles all of Thou's Nirvana covers, originally recorded and released piecemeal on various EPs, splits, and tributes from 2009 - 2018. The songs feature guest appearances from Emily McWilliams (Silver Godling), Melissa Guion (MJ Guider), Rebecca Levy (Turboslut), Isidore Grisoli (High), and Jennifer Murphy (that one Thou tote). The record features artwork by New Orleans' underground, BDSM, xerox freakaleek „Trashboy.) 32.00
TONY PALKOVIC - Born With A Desire LP (numero -A trailblazing amalgam of elevator-friendly R&B and synth-forward smooth jazz, Tony Palkovic’s 1986 debut goes down easy as a huff of dentist-issued nitrous. Born With A Desire’s silky grooves and bursts of drum machine 1.0 endure as an ’80s vision of future earth where 8-bit graphics and pastel palettes swath a synthesizer Shangri La.) 30.00
V/A - Someone Like Me DLP (efficient space - A humanity-reminding suite of miracle moments, Someone Like Me unites a geographically unbound cast of real people in pursuit of a meaningful connection. Taping their lived experience in economic studios in quiet English counties, Pacific Northwest woodland retreats and the big city bustle of Sydney and Los Angeles, these kindred spirits rendered sheer beauty in the process. Custom pressed folk songs of love, loss and the lord saviour. Illuminating minor works from seasoned players such as former Syndicate Of Sound chart-topper Sharkey and late-era Canned Heat lynchpin James Thornbury, the collection simultaneously honours the fleeting amateurism of hobby musicians. With their one shot at tangible vinyl, freshman Lynne Ann Kingan realised her loose bubblegum rocker on campus time, while U.S. Navy recruit Fred Potts cut his unconditionally serene ballad remotely stationed on a Spanish naval base. Spartan production continues to reign with Jon Betmead’s hair-raising gospel, howling into infinite space, and Goldrust’s stripped back garden hymn. Throughout the hour-long reflection, faith has an intermittent yet revelatory presence, most overtly with the divine choral soul of Seventh-day Adventist quartet Remnant. More subtly, Gary Ramey and Jim Kennedy both turned to song in their spiritual quests, offering their all to a universal power. An irrefutable compilation cornerstone, the National Office For Black Catholics showcased Charles Murphy’s lionhearted account of the Black experience at a 1971 concert. Five years earlier, high school seniors The Superwomen would use their hauntingly angelic harmonies to address racial inequity with a breathless take on ‚Lowlands’. Reaching the furthest corners, Someone Like Me secures the inaugural licence of three homespun masterpieces. Discovered by fluke in the digital haystacks of Youtube and Soundcloud, Jim Huxley’s bedroom pop earworm melds peacefully into Charlie Webster’s synthesized reverie. Meanwhile, Hollywood’s John Agostino introduces us to the bizarre world of tax scam records, with the artist only now learning that his tender psych-folk demos were leaked via a 1977 bootleg. Compiled and lovingly restored by armchair digger Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring/The Green Child), Someone Like Me pays due service to seventeen rarefied journals of truth and devotion. Adorned with visual artist Chris Fallon’s figure and flora dream extractions, the uniting songbook is further detailed by expansive track-by-track liner notes and a forward from San Franciscan poet Rod Roland.) 30.00
YUCHING HUANG - The Crystal Hum LP (night people - The Crystal Hum is the debut vinyl release by Taiwan-based artist Yu Ching Huang and her first release for Night School.
The Crystal Hum is the debut vinyl release by Taiwan-based artist Yuching Huang and her first release for Night School. A beguiling dreamscape of crackles, spluttering, love-struck Casios presided over by the the spectral vocal and guitar work of Huang, Yuching sings love songs at the end of this world and the beginning of the next. Recorded during a hiatus from her group Aemong (a duo with artist Henrique Uba) in Berlin, these songs elevate Huang’s unique vocal style and grasp of atmospherics. The Crystal Hum deconstructs balladry, Garage, guitar music and reforms it into a unified ghostly otherworld version of these languages. The Crystal Hum thrums with buried desire, trails of nocturnal reverb seeping out of apartment windows, diaristic vocal performances and deeply emotive, evocative Western-style strings. Formulated by Yuching Huang after periods of frustration and experimentation, the album is an exercise in minimalism and paring back, with some tracks like JohnJohn featuring little else than an elastic bass, spring reverb trails, an interjecting vocal and swelling, dislocated synths. The effect is spellbinding,
the soundtrack to getting lost in the labyrinthine, closed streets of Venice, Taipei, Hong Kong, or mirror versions of them in the imagination.) 28.00
