A brand new compilation of Afro-Colombian music from Colombia’s Pacific and Caribbean coasts. It’s a beautiful collection this, featuring legendary figures such as Inés Granja, Francisco Torres, Nelda Piña and Emilson Pacheco, as well as younger names. Side A is devoted to music from the Pacific coast and heavily features marimba, whereas Side B has the Caribbean coast as its focus, and sees a change to gaita flutes as a principal instrument. On both sides, vocal and drumming Afro-Colombian traditions are at the fore; all-in-all this is a great collection of folk music by Afro-Colombian artists; an area that is still criminally under-represented on vinyl.
Mangle Rojo: Afro-Colombian Sounds from the Pacific and Caribbean Coasts is released by Bánfora Records and produced by David Cantoni.
