The Gems from the Chicago suburb of Evanston, Illinois. They formed in 1952 and were signed to Drexel Records in 1954. Drexel, a small Chicago label owned by Paul King & Les Caldwell. That was probably the main reason the Gems were kept in obscurity. The Gems recorded for Drexel Records from 1954 - 1957. There recordings, whether Uptempo or Sweet Ballads were outstanding in every way. From the outstanding lead tenor to the tight vocal harmony in the background, all their endeavors were gems.
