Meidän täytyy valvoa jottemme nukkuisi, sillä maailma on liukas is Pietu Arvola’s first album under his own name. The album was created during a year of loss and a remarkably grey time when most of the formerly distinctive seasons coalesced into a seemingly endless rainy period.
Field recordings captured in the last natural forests of southern Finland are interwoven with the swirls of microtonal bells and disorienting clatters. Acoustic and synthetic sounds are detached from their sources, becoming convoluted and forming new meanings.
The album’s title is derived from a cryptic letter by 19th-century acclaimed painter and theosophy enthusiast Pekka Halonen to his sister. In the album’s context, the title calls for vigilance to avoid the slippery slope towards apathy and the feeling of losing oneself under the constant bombardment of information and noise in the present day.
