‘In These Times’ represents the realisation of a project nearly seven years in the making for American jazz drummer Makaya McCraven. Doing extensive post-production work on the record while at the same time recording and releasing (count them…) six studio albums between 2015 and 2021, this lavishly orchestrated version of McCraven’s self-styled ‘organic beat music’ represents his finest work.
