Night Music is a deeply personal collection of piano-led pieces by Italian composer Bruno Bavota, most of the written and recorded during the summer of 2024 in his solitary mountain studio in Caposele, southern Italy, where he usually spends his summers.
At the heart of the album is Bavota's beloved old Schiller upright piano, an instrument with a distinctive warmth, fragile resonance, and a quiet imperfection that shapes the character of every piece. Recorded in near silence with the microphones pushed to full gain, each performance captures the smallest gestures of touch: the breath between notes, the creak of the room, the lingering decay of the strings. The result is music that feels almost suspended in time.
While much of Night Music unfolds as intimate solo piano, the album also expands beyond it in subtle ways. Two pieces — "We Still Have Time" and "Nightwalking" — introduce Bavota's signature palette of treated piano and pedal-driven electronics, where echoes and textures gently blur the line between acoustic, ambient and electronic sound. Another track opens into a delicate string arrangement ("Without You"), adding a cinematic dimension without breaking the fragile atmosphere that holds the record together.
It is an immersive record — music that mirrors the silence of the mountains where it was created, and the emotional intimacy that has become a hallmark of Bavota's work.
