The Goldenen Zitronen have been one of the defining bands in the German independent scene for more than three decades. Since their formation in Hamburg in 1984, they have released 13 regular albums. Initially as part of the fun punk scene, they expanded their musical spectrum from simple, fast punk and rockabilly songs to more complex and experimental song structures. Their music contains connections to new wave bands of the 80s and krautrock of the 70s, as well as to contemporary forms of electronic music. In their lyrics, the Goldenen Zitronen have become increasingly astute observers of social conditions since the 90s and have developed their very own style of dealing with the German language. In 2024, they will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a best of compilation on 3 vinyls including 24 tour posters from all decades.
