"The reigning dark priestess of goth-scarred art rock." - Rolling Stone "Hiss Spun" is CHELSEA WOLFE's sixth album and the follow-up to 2015's acclaimed "Abyss". Recorded by Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE), the album was conceived as an emotional purge, a means of coming to terms with the tumult of the outside world by exploring the complexity of inner turmoil. "I'm at odds with myself," she explains. "I was tired of trying to disappear, so the album became very personal. I wanted to open up more, but also create my own reality." "Hiss Spun" also features prominent guitar contributions from Troy Van Leeuwen (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, FAILURE) and a guest appearance on "Vex" by Aaron Turner (OLD MAN GLOOM, SUMAC). While previous albums like 'The Grime And The Glow' and 'Unknown Rooms' were based on the intimacy of stripped-down folk music, or like 'Pain Is Beauty' and 'Abyss' operated with the throbbing pulse of complementary electronics, 'Hiss Spun' offers a palette of groaning bass, pounding drums and crashing distortion. Part of its aura was drawn from the cold white of the New England winter, although the heart of the album was born from the upheavals in WOLFE's personal life, revealing her vulnerability, anger, self-destruction and dark family history. "The album is cyclical, just like me and my moods," she says. For the singer, it represents a kind of exorcism of herself.
