Distant Call, unlike Spell Blanket, is a collection of early demos of songs that would later appear as finished productions on the albums Haha Sound, Tender Buttons and The Future Crayon. The album also includes two songs that James discovered after Trish's death: Come Back To Me and Please Call To Book. These were their response to Broadcast's 2006 Let's Write A Song project, which asked fans to send in song lyrics on a postcard that would then be worked into a finished song. Distant Call closes the door on Broadcast and will be the band's last release.
