New Folk Devils’ was written in the winter of 2006. There are no concepts, only intentions: firstly, to counteract the notion that experimental music has to sideline emotion in favour of intellectualism; secondly, to take experimentalism back to the core components of guitar, bass and drums.
Intent on soundtracking their collective upbringing in the working class, post-industrial north of England, the band battled against time and technology to craft an album of suitable scope. The result is a kaleidoscopic, stream of consciousness rant in musical form, heavily inspired by the nihilism of CRASS, Throbbing Gristle and Killing Joke.
