NO DRAMA - Papershop / A City Within 7“ (brainwasher - No Drama is an indie/punk quartet from Toulouse, France, formed in 2022. After a year spent playing local shows (opening for bands such as Come, Spite House and Hotline TNT), the band released an eponymous debut EP on Nov 23 and subsequently toured in France and Spain. Their new release is due Nov 1st, and includes ‘Papershop’, a pop punk hit which deals with working in a stationery retail company full of annoying customers, and ‘A City Within’, a more contemplative track which imagines parallels between an old cemetery in Toulouse and housing in modern cities) 8.00

TICS - Unmirrored Gaze 7“ (Mörtel - Cologne's now quite long-established art punk institution Tics has made itself heard again and their latest 7" on the local label Mörtelsounds presents the band in their most focused and catchy incarnation for a while. All the moving parts fit together more seamlessly than ever before, with the opener Clad Faun probably being stylistically closest to the Minutemen and Gang Of Four-informed post punk of their early work. At the same time, however, they are increasingly opening up to a range of influences, quite a few of which I would place in the Dischord universe of the '90s, namely on the one hand its more melodic outgrowths á la Fire Party and Autoclave, but as the album progresses, many of the more "typical" acts á la Jawbox, Hoover, Smart Went Crazy, Bluetip and Kerosene 454 have certainly left their mark, along with other giants of the '90s such as Polvo, Unwound and Chavez. At the same time, however, I also think I can hear echoes of more recent events, such as Australian and New Zealand bands like Die! Die! Die!, Batpiss and Bench Press, as well as US bands like Stuck or Rip Room. (12XU BLOG)) 12.00

LP

ANDREW CHALK - Dioramas LP (An’Archives - On Andrew Chalk’s new album for An’archives, Dioramas, he returns to the art of the miniaturist, after the long-form exploration of 2024’s Songs Of The Sea. It’s an appropriate mode of address given the title – each of these fifteen pieces indeed feels like a replica of a specific scene, rendered in miniature. As with much of Chalk’s music, they set out to explore humble terrain, a thread of melody in slow motion, or a weave of texture, sometimes in aquatic repose, moving like slow tides. There’s a becalmed warmth to much of Dioramas, along with some curious developments: a pronounced folksy lilt to the melody that’s turned over and over, like a jewel slowly spinning on a dial, in “The Carrach”; the lush churchiness of the organ in the hymnal “The Changes”; the stretched strings that quiver and whisper on the closing “Lonely House”. These subtle changes can seem profound at first blush, but they simply highlight aspects of Chalk’s music that we sometimes miss; they eventually settle into the scenery.) 35.00

BONNIE 'PRINCE' BILLY - The Purple Bird LP (back in stock - The Purple Bird finds Bonnie "Prince" Billy working with a "producer" for only the second time in his illustrious catalog. This time it's David "Ferg" Ferguson (Johnny Cash, Sturgill Simpson) who guides the songs backed by "the best band you can get in Nashville right now", country singer John Anderson and Bluegrass legend Tim O'Brien. The Purple Bird is simultaneously like and unlike other BPB records. Many of the songs are a product of multiple composers’ voices, making the shape-shifting aspect of the BPB persona more fluid than ever before.) 27.00

BRIDGET HAYDEN AND THE APPARITIONS - Cold Blows the Rain LP (The reinterpreted traditional folk songs that make up Cold Blows the Rain are shaped by the land and the weather. Wrapped in mist and drizzle, the crawling drone of low heavy clouds on flat-top moors. The sound of the dark Calder Valley floor and sun starved hills around Todmorden, West Yorkshire in the North of England) 28.00

DAMON LOCKS - List Of Demands LP (international anthem - List of Demands, Damon Locks’s first foray into creating an entire album from spoken and text-based work, finds the Chicago-based musician and educator collecting cultural abstractions and reorganizing them into a firm truth. The album lays out a vision of Black liberation and transmits it outward as a song cycle of bite-sized Nikki Giovanni-meets-MF DOOM-style rhythm experiments. The sample-based constructions are steeped in a lifetime of not only keen cultural observation, but direct communal participation in the culture. Locks’s decades-long resume connects the dots between experimental improvisation, sample based hip hop, punk, and poetry – each done at the highest level and with a list of collaborators that could spin the head of even the most jaded listener. And that seems to be the point. To jump-start the entire personality spectrum into action. Ecstatic positivity examined via his nuanced grasp of reality, all working toward that ever-evasive concept of what could be.) 30.00

EDGAR WAPPENHALTER - IJsschots Veenlaag Mist LP (morc - We’re delighted to announce the triumphant return of Steve Marreyt, aka Edgar Wappenhalter. Here he reverts to making gritty reverb-drenched folksongs. But the poetic and electronic elements from his previous album remain – they’re just incorporated in the songs this time. It makes ‘Ijsschots Veenlaag Mist’ probably Wappenhalter’s most balanced work thusfar. Songs like ‘Hallusineren’ or ‘Vogel rok diamant’ prove he’s one of the best intuitive songwriters around, whereas In het bos (1) and (2) demonstrate his mastery in creating soundcollages as well. Best of all: he switches between them effortless, and he makes sure the listener doesn’t get lost along the way.) 25.00

FACS - Wish Defense LP (TIM - The duality of “man” is a subject that has been explored in art for centuries, from writings of the Bible to Descartes, all the way up to filmmakers like Lynch, Cronenberg, & Carpenter. Who is your “true self” & what do they want? With their sixth studio album “Wish Defense” (again for longtime home Trouble In Mind Records), Chicago trio FACS take a good, long look in the mirror to face themselves. The return of original member Jonathan Van Herik - who stepped away from the group just before their debut album “Negative Houses” was released in 2018 - replacing longtime bassist Alianna Kalaba brings renewed vigor & a marked angularity from the band’s more recent output. The songs still hit hard, but the approach is sideways - the roles have changed since Van Herik’s original tenure & his previous time with Case & powerhouse drummer Noah Leger in Disappears; now on bass, Van Herik was originally the group’s guitar player and features on the debut, while current guitarist Brian Case played bass. This role reversal has helped the band’s dynamic, offering up a different musical perspective than before, now revisiting the trio’s long-going collaboration with some distance and time. ) 26.00

FEEDY -  Xxn Vldz DLP (Gold & white vinyl, limited to 200. A slantwise, shivery rain of heavy drips. Pure structure in a pure derangement.Feedy from Oldenburg walks along Postmetal & Noiserock. Cut your arms of and throw them in the air.) 30.00

FREIWILLIGE SELBSTKONTROLLE (FSK) - Magic Moments LP (Originally released in 1982 on ZickZack Platten, this EP includes the four tracks »Wir steigen ein«, »Trink wie ein Tier«, »Herzschuß Melodie« & »Viel zu viel«. The reissue is accompanied by a booklet with liner notes by Tim Klütz (in German).) 20.00

FREIWILLIGE SELBSTKONTROLLE - Stürmer LP (A Musik -  2025 repress with revised booklet.  "We proudly present the repress of our first reissue, from 2011 - of a long o/p LP that urgently needed to be re-released since "Stürmer" is one of the most outstanding records in the history of german avantpop/punk. Originally released 1981 on the legendary ZickZack label, the debut LP by Munich's Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle soon reached cult status and became one of the most important NDW / german postpunk releases ever. Active since today F.S.K. were one of John Peel's all time favourites and actually did more Peel Sessions than any other band - well, besides The Fall, of course. For quite a while it was almost impossible to grab a copy of "Stürmer", but luckily the LP was finally reissued, accompanied by a 8 pp. booklet with lots of unpublished photos and extensive liner notes by NDW-historiograph Frank Apunkt Schneider (in german)." ) 30.00

HER SPACE HOLIDAY - Home Is Where You Hang Yourself [Y2K 25th Anniversary Edition] DLP (numero - Following his post-hardcore heroics with Indian Summer and Calm, Marc Bianchi unplugged his distortion pedal and switched on the four-track. From his boyhood San Mateo, California bedroom, Her Space Holiday explores the bewilderment of young adulthood through a dreamy prozac lens. This expanded 25th anniversary edition of Home Is Where You Hang Yourself includes an extra LP of remixed songs from Duster, Bright Eyes, Micromars, and Mahogany, an elegant tip-on jacket, lyrics, and 20 milligrams of millennial malaise. Ask your doctor if Her Space Holiday is right for you.) 36.00

ISAIAH COLLIER / WILLIAM HOOKER / WILLIAM PARKER - The Ancients DLP (aguirre - The debut recording by The Ancients, the intergenerational coalition of Isaiah Collier, William Hooker, & William Parker formed by Parker to play concerts in conjunction with the Milford Graves mind body deal exhibition at the institute of contemporary art los angeles & now a working group. Across 2xLPs of side-length long-form improvised sets recorded at 2220 arts & archives in LA & the chapel in San Francisco, The Ancients bring the free jazz trio languages first explored by the Cecil Taylor Unit & Ornette Coleman’s -Golden Circle- band (expanded upon in later eras by Sam Rivers' Trio & Parker’s collective trios with Charles Gayle/Graves & Peter Brötzmann/Hamid Drake) into their own unique & scintillating realms of expression. ) 36.00

JEFF PARKER - Mondays at The Enfield Tennis Academy DLP (Aguirre - Mondays at The Enfield Tennis Academy, x2 LPs of long-form, lyrical, groove-based free improv by acclaimed guitarist & composer Jeff Parker's ETA IVtet. Recorded live at ETA (referencing David Foster Wallace), a bar in LA’s Highland Park neighborhood with just enough space in the back for Parker, drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Anna Butterss, & alto saxophonist Josh Johnson to convene in extraordinarily depth-full & exploratory music making. Gleaned for the stoniest side-length cuts from 10+ hours of vivid two-track recordings made between 2019 & 2021 by Bryce Gonzales, Mondays at The Enfield Tennis Academy is a darkly glowing séance of an album, brimming over with the hypnotic, the melodic, & patience & grace in its own beautiful strangeness. Room-tone, electric fields, environment, ceiling echo, live recording, Mondays, Los Angeles. Jeff Parker's first double album & first live album, Mondays at The Enfield Tennis Academy belongs in the lineage of such canonical live double albums recorded on the West Coast as Lee Morgan’s Live at the Lighthouse, Miles Davis' In Person Friday & Saturday Night at the Blackhawk, San Francisco & Black Beauty, & John Coltrane's Live in Seattle.) 35.00

KROPPSKÄNNEDOM - Kroppskännedom LP (morc - As Kroppskännedom, Andreas Malm focuses on sound textures: slow repetitive tracks with the sounds of decaying tapes and torn amps. Maybe what it could have sounded like if Wouter van Veldhoven produced the instrumental Unwound-songs? Too daring for rock music, too straightforward for drone, too catchy for experimental, and too unhinged for song-based music: Kroppskännedom effortlessly defies every single genre you’d like to put him in. After one solo tape, this is the vinyl debut of Kroppskännedom. In just six tracks, Andreas Malm sure knows how to get straight to the point. ‘Antares’ is the shortest track of the album but sets the mood: this isn’t your average loop-based album, it’s the texture that’s the main element. Guitars take a more central role on the rest of the A-side, not as guitar music, but as waves crashing and receding in an endless cycle. The B-side takes a more rhythmical approach, all whilst staying true to the same sentiment. ‘Kroppskännedom’ was made in Malmö over the course of the past few years, all by Andreas. To add a few subtle accents, he invited friends to perform on a few songs. Sofie Herner (of Leda/Neutral/Enhet för Fri Musik) lends her voice on Vara med dig, and plays guitars on Sluta. David Roeder (aka Nein Rodere) does melodica and setar on Vara med dig, and vocals on Ambros II. Their contributions blend in flawlessly.) 26.00

SKIP MAHOANEY AND THE CASUALS - Your Funny Moods LP (numero - Harrison Hoaney grew up in the rough Southwestern quadrant of the District of Columbia known as Ladroit Park. Populated with unsavory, if not criminal, characters, Harrison’s neighborhood reminded him of the film serial The Bowery Boys. Leo Gorcey portrayed the titular ne’er-do-wells’ leader “Slip” Mahoney, and noting the similarity in their last names “Skip” Mahoaney stuck as his nickname. Together with fellow Francis Cardozo hall-dwellers George Norris, James Morse, Franklin Radcliff, and Morris Moore, the Casuals were formed in 1965. Upon graduation in 1968, Skip had a draft scare, but received a reprieve when, after a few agonizing months in basic, he was deemed flatfooted and sent back to the capital. In 1969, the group solidified around its best-known line-up: Roger Chapman, Billy Jones, and original member George Norris. Most importantly, the quartet joined forces with schoolmate James Purdie, a partially blind multi-instrumentalist who had made a name for himself at Cardozo. Purdie could play, arrange, and write songs, and proved essential to the group’s unique and professional sound; equally important, he would be the driving factor in connecting the Casuals with Robert José Williams. ) 28.00

TAPE

FACS - Wish Defense TAPE (TIM - The duality of “man” is a subject that has been explored in art for centuries, from writings of the Bible to Descartes, all the way up to filmmakers like Lynch, Cronenberg, & Carpenter. FUNERAL MESS - Following The Apocalypse TAPE (brainwasher - “Following the Apocalypse” is the second release by FUNERAL MESS—a wild, mysterious hardcore punk act from Tbilisi. LUIGI MONTEANNI - Tempat Angker: Horror Movie OSTs and Sound FX from Indonesia (1971-2015) 2xTAPE (Tempat Angker (haunted place) is a Halloween mixtape compiled by music researcher and artist Luigi Monteanni, aka Neurotica Exotica. BOOKS

DAVID KING - David King Publications 1977 – 2019 BOOK (David King Publications 1977 - 2019 is the first published survey of David King’s book projects and graphic design work. David King (1948 - 2019) was a British born artist, graphic designer, and musician best known for designing the Crass symbol. His many varied projects encompassed design, drawing, photography, sculpture, film, video, radio plays, and more. King was a core member of the New York No Wave band Arsenal, and later the San Francisco post punk bands Sleeping Dogs and Brain Rust. He generated hundreds of flyers for these bands and others during the period of 1977 - 1988, as well as creating logos, brand identities and posters for nightclubs like Danceteria, Pravda, and the Peppermint Lounge in New York and the I-Beam in San Francisco. King made dozens of Xeroxed and offset zines in the late 70s and 80s that often accompanied his music projects. In the early 2000s, he began self publishing highly idiosyncratic small run books with subjects ranging from photographs of J.G Ballard’s home to rock formations seen in early Western films. In the later 2000s, he released numerous books of graphic design and photography through Colpa Press, &Pens, and Gingko Press. This publication seeks to introduce readers to King’s small press publishing projects, as well as his zines, ephemera, and illustration work. Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at San Francisco Center for the Book: October 25 - December 22, 2024.) 30.00

FANNY CHIARELLO - Basta Now: Women, Trans & Non-binary in Experimental Music BOOK (permanent - 392 pp! Basta Now: Women, Trans & Non-binary in Experimental Music is a non-academic essay by French poet, novelist and music enthusiast Fanny Chiarello. It’s also the first book to be published by Permanent Draft, an all-female record label and micro-press founded by musician Valentina Magaletti and writer Fanny Chiarello, dedicated to promoting contemporary female, non-binary and transgender artists. Basta Now is essentially a huge (yet admittedly not definitive) overview of 2,371 womxn in the global experimental sound & music scene. It's been written in playful and compelling prose and stylishly presented with photos, illustrations, and discographies. “This book has nothing against men, it’s just not about them.” - Fanny Chiarello) 28.00

FRED VERMOREL - The Secret History Of Kate Bush (And The Strange Art Of Pop) BOOK (Le Gospel - The Secret History of Kate Bush, first published in 1982 as Kate was on the verge of superstardom, is a daring and unorthodox dive into the world of music, fame, and cultural obsession. Written by Fred Vermorel—a close associate of Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood, and renowned for his subversive "anti-biographies"—the book shatters the boundaries of traditional celebrity profiles. Told from the perspective of a die-hard fan, it unveils the mystique of one of pop’s most elusive icons while exposing the capitalist machinery driving the entertainment industry. Part biography, part cultural critique, and entirely provocative, this is not just a book about Kate Bush but a rebellious manifesto against the commodification of art. Republished in 2022 by Le Gospel in France, this special edition goes even deeper with unpublished treasures from Vermorel’s personal archive. Featuring an exclusive interview with Kate’s father, Dr. Robert Bush, a razor-sharp foreword by novelist and musician Tony O’Neill (Digging the Vein), and Vermorel’s own afterword reflecting on his explosive work four decades later, this is a must-read for anyone fascinated by Kate Bush, the art of fandom, and the raw power of creative rebellion. Fred Vermorel is a pioneer of the in-depth study of celebrity and fan cultures, best known for his controversial "anti-biographies" of pop icons including the Sex Pistols, Kate Bush, Vivienne Westwood, and Kate Moss. 160 pgs, 20.5 × 14 cm, Softcover, 2024,) 26.00

KIM GORDON - Chronicles Vol.3 BOOK (The tract developments are emulations of utopian communities. Going back to the 1920’s utopian cult Kibbo Kift made banners that they took to specific locations of historic, mysterious monuments and natural monument occurances, Silbury Hill, Stonehenge. The real estate developments around Los Angeles are not mysterious but can be branded as such. An escape from the city life, with names that connote a natural preserve, such as Hidden Hills, Golden Valley, Garden Paradise Estates. Even though they all reside within the smog polluted skies that everyone in the Los Angeles basin does, they poke the desire for utopian living in nature, a simpler time. How to forget about technology, automation and the consequences of our hyper technological age. The signage is placed outside the entrance like the banners of Kibbo Kift, which they would make and bring ceremoniously to these natural or historic places. If one meditates on it maybe it will become real, transposing the desire for escape and living unfettered in paradise, “getting back to the garden...” as Joni Mitchell would say. Kim Gordon Chronicles Vol.3 combines Kim Gordon's Real Estate Paintings with staged canvases photographed by Josephine Pryde in vacant apartments and offices in and around Kriens and Lucerne. The photos, which were taken using purely analog technology, create a disturbing and enraptured atmosphere. Kim Gordon is an American musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the bassist, guitarist, and vocalist of Sonic Youth. In addition to her work as a musician, Gordon has had ventures in record producing, fashion (X-Girl), writing, acting, directing and has worked consistently as a visual artist throughout her musical career. She formed Sonic Youth with Thurston Moore, Lee Renaldo and Richard Edson in 1981. Gordon is also a founding member of the musical project Free Kitten, which she formed with Julia Cafritz in 1993.) 25.00

RÅPUNK - Swedish raw punk scene between 1981 and 1989 BOOK (This is the Standard Edition
322 pages with a 3/4 dust jacket RÅPUNK documents the Swedish raw punk scene between 1981 and 1989. Inspired by bands like DISCHARGE, CRASS and DEAD KENNEDYS, the second wave of Swedish punk bands launched a furious, unique musical and visual onslaught that still affects and influences punk fans worldwide. The book captures the spirit of this era by featuring rare and never before seen photos of bands like ANTI-CIMEX, ASOCIAL, AVSKUM, DISARM, HUVUDTVÄTT/HEADCLEANERS, MISSBRUKARNA, MOB 47, MODERAT LIKVIDATION, RAPED TEENAGERS, RÖVSVETT, SKITSLICKERS, SVART PARAD, SVART SNÖ, SWANKERS PMS, TOTALITÄR and many, many more. It also documents the people — who by going to gigs, organising demonstrations, producing fanzines and releasing tapes and records — all represented different creative and ideological but equally important parts of the scene. RÅPUNK also features a great number of fanzines, posters, record and cassette artwork — all representing and encapsulating the scene’s raw, expressive and important Do It Yourself design aspect. Written by DAVID ANDERSSON — a member of the scene as a singer in IDENTITY and zine maker of BUBBEL-BAD — with a foreword by legendary NAPALM DEATH singer LEE DORRIAN, who toured Sweden at the time, and was one of the few promoters to bring the Swedish råpunk bands to the UK. The book fills a previously blank area on the map as this is the first time the Swedish raw punk scene of the 1980s gets a visual documentation in book form. Written & compiled by: David Andersson, Foreword by: Lee Dorrian, Edited by: Justin Hallström & Caroline Södergren) 45.00

VICTOR BOULLET - Philip Glass 5th October 1995 New York City BOOK (In 1995, while visiting New York, Victor Boullet managed to secure a portrait sitting with the composer Philip Glass in his New York townhouse. In ‘Philip Glass 5th October 1995 New York City’, Boullet reveals the entire unedited portrait session including every frame, along with his contact sheets. In this sequence of photographs and Boullet’s accompanying essay, which amusingly recounts the story behind his morning with Philip Glass, Boullet’s portrayal of the composer and his own thoughts, mishaps and insecurities coincide to create a double portrait of the artist and his sitter.  "Portraying someone connected to culture or fame can be a way of climbing a social ladder just by being associated with the sitter, I have used this to my advantage, but this was not the case that day I rang Philip Glass, I was a fan and bored. The playing stopped. Silence. Footsteps. There he was in front of me, Philip Glass. He looked at me with a startled expression, first at my face, then down at my shoes. He then rapidly moved his eyeballs towards my yellow plastic suitcase containing my camera, he lifted his head and sort of looked behind me, and uttered: is that all?”
