URBAN SPRAWL - Demo 2018 7" (convulsive - Urban Sprawl's 2018 Demo, available for the first time as a 7". The precursor to the band's 2021 Revelation Records debut, the Concrete Altar EP, the 2018 demo introduces a band as relentless and stampeding as they are thoughtful about their environment and its underlying structures of oppression. San Francisco's Urban Sprawl features members of Törso, Wound Man, Profile, and more,) 11.00

KING TUBBY - Dub From The Roots 3x10" BOXSET (clocktower - The all-time classic Dub from The Roots cut as a colored vinyl triple 10" in a nice magnetically-sealed box. There are very few individuals who command the respect of dub aficionados greater than 'The Dubmaster' himself, King Tubby. On Tubby's venerable 1974 release Dub from the Roots, he introduces us to the 'Shalom Dub', a method of mixing flying cymbals with horns in what he describes as 'going in and out in a dub way'. Borrowing from the forty fives of Johnny Clarke, Jackie Edwards, Cornell Campbell, John Holt, and Horace Andy, King Tubby takes the listener on a journey through a vast array of different emotions, rhythms and soundscapes. One of the standout cuts, 'Iyahta' explores Tubby's use of deep electric basslines to evoke a melodic calmness in the listener, while 'Mine Field' and 'Hijack the Barber' bring you back with the cavernous echoes of stabbing guitars, horns, and cymbals. Though previously released by different labels on a variety of dusty pressings and formats, Clocktower's reissue of Dub From The Roots is the definitive edition of this 'Dubmaster' classic, featuring audio mastered from the original analog tapes.“) 40.00

75 DOLLAR BILL - Wooden Bag LP (other music - Originally released in January of 2015, our limited vinyl debut, Wooden Bag, followed various cassette and digital EPs, and quickly sold out. Now back in print from new lacquers cut at Chicago Mastering and manufactured at Memphis Record Pressing, this re-release sounds and looks fantastic. A must-have for fans both old and new, the LP comes packaged in a custom “disco sleeve,” which reproduces the original’s hand-stamped art, and includes a download card. “Yet now 75 Dollar Bill is headed to the bigs—kind of. Brown and Chen have inked a deal with Other Music Recording Co., and this week, they celebrate their third full-length, Wooden Bag. The album’s seven gyrating, hypnotic dances feature maracas, shakers and homemade-horn–accented guitarscapes; imagine Yo La Tengo but with Indian music rather than the Velvets as prime inspiration." -- Brad Cohan / Time Out New York) 25.00
AKT 3 - Frauenfeuer LP (disco nada - For the first time ever on vinyl (or any other format) the complete AKT recording session. AKT was a short lived Brazilian all girl post-punk/experimental group formed by members of As Mercenárias, Bruhahá Babélico, De Falla and R. Mutt. AKT1: had been three gigs at Espaço Retrô, em Sao Paulo - AKT2: their only releases, two tracks on cult compilation - "Enquanto Isso" - AKT3: this LP Remastered from the original tapes, this reissue also brings unseen photos by Rui Mendes and the band story written by Alex Antunes (Akira S & As Garotas Que Erraram), based on statements by the girls, the engineer, Bruno Verner (R. Mutt) and Thomas Pappon (Fellini). More details: This would have been the Brazilian post-punk supergroup. It would have, because bassist and singer Sandra Coutinho moved to Germany, leaving these recordings behind - only ever two songs were released on an independent compilation (Enquanto Isso) and a tape sampler. Sandra (Bass, As Mercenárias) along with Denise Camargo (keyboards and voice, BruhaháBabélico and Dequinha e Zaba), Biba Meira (drums, De Falla) and Karla Xavier (guitar, R. Mutt), expressive musicians in expressive bands, were AKT. And this powerful repertoire, composed and recorded in the short period of the group's existence, recorded and produced by R.H. Jackson (Caracol) the complete session remained unheard until now.) 27.00
CALEB DAILEY - Warm Evenings, Pale Mornings: Beside You Then LP (alien transistor - Growing up in the Californian sprawl and the vast suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona, Caleb Dailey largely dismissed the country and western music that surrounded him. Instead, he was drawn to independent rock, experimental zones, and other genre-defying forms, which led him to create skewed rock music with Bear State and establish the “minimal art label” Moone Records with his brother Micah Dailey in 2013. But in the early half of the 2010s, Dailey began to hear things differently. Drawn into the left-of-center works of artists like Gram Parsons and Blaze Foley, a more idiosyncratic take on country, folk, and roots music began to swirl in his imagination.) 30.00
CELL ROT - Slowly Falls Apart LP (convulsive - Six new songs from Oakland's Cell Rot on a 12". The band's first release since 2019's split with World Peace. Noisy, abrasive hardcore music. Fast and heavy. Power and Violence.) 20.00
CLARA ROCKMORE - The Lost Theremin Album LP (mississippi - A new LP collection of incredible performances by the virtuosa of theremin, Clara Rockmore, accompanied by her sister Nadia Reisenberg on piano. Recorded in 1975 and never before released on vinyl, this compendium features stellar performances of compositions by Bach, Chopin, Schubert, Gershwin and more, and even features a cello ensemble on a few songs! Some of the finest examples of Clara Rockmore’s unrivaled art - rich with bittersweet moments of air, electricity, human grace and emotional composition all merging into some new thing that is transcendent of time and genre. 160 gram vinyl comes in old school tip-on jacket and includes an 8-page booklet of interviews, photos, and insights with Clara Rockmore, Nadia Reisenberg, Robert Moog, and more.) 25.00
DADAWAH - Peace And Love - Wadadasow LP (Arctica starts here - Originally released in 1974; Dark, hypnotic, tripping nyabinghi (spiritual Rastafari drum celebration) led by Jamaican singing hand-drummer Ras Michael. Over four extended excursions, the music is organic, sublime and expansive, guided by grounation drums and bass-heavy, dazed blues guitar played by Willie Lindo.) 26.00
ENJI - Ursgal LP (On her second album Ursgal Mongolian singer Enji creates a unique blend of Jazz and Folk with the traditions of Mongolian song. Currently based in Munich, her lyrics tell personal stories about unbearable distances, the oddness of being on earth and the simple truths in life. She’s accompanied by Paul Brändle on guitar and Munguntovch Tsolmonbayar on double bass. Born in Ulaanbaatar, Enji grew up in a yurt to a working-class family. Having always been drawn to music, dance and literature, she initially wanted to become a music teacher with little ambitions to compose or be on stage. A program by the local Goethe Institute sparked her passion for Jazz and eventually led her to become a performing artist. Inspired by the music of Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson, Enji started writing songs of her own, cherishing this newfound means of expression. Ursgal is the first record featuring her original compositions.) 25.00
FITZ GORE & THE TALISMEN - Soundmagnificat LP (sonorama - Deep spiritual jazz recorded in Germany, performed by Jamaican born saxophone player Fitz Gore and his international group The Talismen, featuring a.o. bassist Gérard Ebbo from Morocco and drummer Philippe Zobda-Quitman from Martinique. This is the first reissue of their second album, released in 1976 by a small private label, including “Delilah” and “Requiem For Julian Cannonball Adderley”. The rare LP comes in a newly mastered version with original cover design and sleeve notes. Fitz Gore`s music is full of tremendous tension and movement between deep seriousness, inwardness and humility; it affects your life, it liberates and heals.) 23.00
THE HELLACOPTERS - Eyes Of Oblivion LP (nuclear blast - Swedish High Energy Rockers THE HELLACOPTERS return with a new studio album! "Eyes Of Oblivion" contains absolutely addictive tunes with all of the juicy riffs and in-your-face swagger you could've possibly hoped for, topped off with captivating hooks that won't leave your head any time soon. Produced by Nicke Andersson & Chips Kisbye (who has overseen every Hellacopters album since "High Visibility" in the year 2000), it will be the band's first full-length since the release of their temporary farewell record "Head Off" in 2008. Considered one of the most important and influential Swedish rock bands ever, they have achieved two Gold certifications, won the Swedish Grammy and a Kerrang! Award, have amassed 100 million streams to date and have supported and toured with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Kiss, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top and the Foo Fighters. After celebrating a triumphant return to stages all across the world in 2016, 2022 will now mark an exciting new chapter in the history of THE HELLACOPTERS, with an album that sums up what the band delivers like no other: soulful and energetic rock’n’roll!) 28.00
HUMAN EXPRESSION - Love At A Psychedelic Velocity LP (mississippi - Unbelievably great psychedelic garage rock from 1966-1968. Up there with the Thirteenth Floor Elevators, Love and the Seeds in quality but with an outsider edge to it. Tough as nails deep heavy group who never got the exposure they deserved back in the day. A few songs leaked out on vinyl on psych comps (Optical Sound, Love at a Psychedelic Velocity and Reading Your Will) but the rest has not been on vinyl until now. Beautiful singer/songwriter ballads & frantic rockers sit side by side creating a truly great lost classic of the 1960’s. We couldn’t be happier with this record. Co-released with Mississippi Records. They consider this release as « easily one of their best ever ».) 23.00
IDLE RAY - s/t LP (life like - The first full-length from Idle Ray, a high-speed sunset viewed from the parking lots of memory. Recorded on cassette four-track over the course of a year without shows, or the sounding board of the music community, these twelve songs were pared down from literally dozens of sketches and abandoned thoughts. Guitar-heavy pop that returns to the basics and also goes to new places. Designed to digest quickly and remind you of both past and future possibilities simultaneously.) 26.00
JACKIE MITTOO - Show Case Volume 3 LP (abrhama - Crucial set feat. Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Aston Barett, Winston Wright, Sly Morris, J. Francisque and Skully "Zoot" Simms. "Mittoo's group combined some of the best studio musicians of his scene and the result is expectedly rocking. Fans of King Tubby compilations should recognize cuts such as 'Champion Of The Arena,' a track perhaps more commonly heard on the Blood and Fire Tubby collection Dub Gone Crazy as 'The Champion Version.'" --Brandon Burke, AllMusic) 23.00
JOE ARMON-JONES - Starting Today LP (Brownwood - Starting Today follows the Idiom EP released with Maxwell Owin in 2017. Picked by The Vinyl Factory as one of 2017’s best EPs, it led to live shows at Boiler Room and Jazz Cafe, and was supported by Touching Bass on NTS and Thristian on Worldwide FM. Last year also saw Ezra Collective (of which he’s a co-founder) release their Juan Pablo EP and headline shows at Islington Assembly Hall and Ronnie Scott’s.) 26.00
JOHNNY OSBOURNE - Meets Roots Radics 1980 - 1981 "Vintage" LP (clocktower - Johnny Osbourne with Meets Roots Radics 1980-1981 "Vintage". Osbourne is one of the most popular Jamaican reggae and dancehall singers of all time. His nickname is the "Dancehall Godfather". Roots Radics band features Lincoln "Style" Scott, Errol "Flabba" Holt, Eric "Bingy Bunny" Lamont, and more.) 23.00
KEIKO HIGUCHI - Vertical Language LP (blank editions - Heavy tip-on jacket with matte pigment stamping and insert. Based in Tokyo, Keiko Higuchi is a vocalist and instrumentalist internationally renowned both for her solo performances and extensive collaborations in the world of underground improvisation, jazz, and the avant-garde. On Vertical Language, Higuchi has created an evocative and hauntingly beautiful album that unfurls in equal parts light and darkness, form, and emptiness. On solo voice and piano as well as in duets with bassist Louis Inage, Higuchi performs a collection of songs and improvisations that take unexpected paths; her voice and piano starkly, soulfully emerge. They gradually take form as sparse notes resonate and build into intense layers of sound. The music is unvarnished and deeply personal -- it embraces traditional Japanese and spiritual music as well as even jazz and bossa nova, but never completely turns itself over to their familiar forms. More than simply an album title, Vertical Language refers to the distinctive musical approach that Higuchi has developed over the past twenty years. Her music is centered on the breath and pulse -- rather than set "horizontal" musical rhythms or structures. It illuminates the connection between the artist's body and sound. In her music, piano chords and voice sound out in an instant and expand, floating off in new directions. The music embraces silence and negative space or the Japanese concept of "Ma", as well as the small "imperfections" that any moment or sound might contain. Each moment in her music is as much imbued with what came before as what will come next -- each note expands in space and can never be seen from just one perspective. In her music, Higuchi is constantly taking us to a place that neither she or we can quite yet see.) 28.00
LUNGFISH - sound in time LP (dischord - A reissue LUNGFISH's fourth full-length, Sound in Time, on LP. Originally released in 1996, the album was recorded at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, Virginia by DON ZIENTARA. Long out of print, this version has been remastered for vinyl by TJ LIPPLE. From their inception in 1988 until their hiatus in 2006, Baltimore's Lungfish music band released 11 full-length albums and played concerts across the United States and in Europe. At the time of this recording, Lungfish was DANIEL HIGGS, ASA OSBORNE, SEAN MEADOWS and MITCHELL FELDSTEIN.) 20.00
MACIE STEWART - Mouth Full of Glass LP (orindal - Mouth Full of Glass is the debut album by Chicago-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Macie Stewart (pronouns: she/her/they/them). Written and recorded while finding solace and strength in solitude, Mouth Full of Glass features eight lushly arranged songs that search for the meaning of self within and without partnership. The record explores loneliness as well as the growth and beauty that blooms from within it - through creating it, Stewart reassesses her own relationships in order to communicate with a singular voice. Stewart began her musical career at the age of 3. Learning piano while she learned to talk, she discovered two foundational modes of communication at once. As the daughter of a career musician (pianist Sami Scot), Stewart was encouraged to explore the piano and violin, and she became proficient on both instruments. After helping to found the Chicago bands Kids These Days and Marrow, Stewart broadened her interests and spent time in the avant-garde jazz scene, performing regularly at Chicago institutions Constellation and The Hungry Brain. It was in that scene Stewart distinguished herself as a go-to collaborator, co-founding the band OHMME (with Sima Cunningham) and performing and improvising with Ken Vandermark’s Marker ensemble, the improvised act The Few (with guitar player Steve Marquette and bassist Charlie Kirchen) and the violin/cello duo Macie Stewart & Lia Kohl. Stewart has also spent years working as a string arranger, drawing on her varied background in classical, jazz, and Irish folk music to create unique arrangements for artists su) 25.00
MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO. - Trials & Errors DLP (secretly canadian - Repress! Trials & Errors is a live album by Magnolia Electric Co., released on Secretly Canadian in 2005. It was recorded on April 16, 2003, at Club Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. It was the first Magnolia Electric Co. album released under that name, even though at the time of recording the band still toured under the Songs: Ohia moniker. The album itself is made up of ten original songs, all but three of which were at the time unreleased, but contains three fragments of Neil Young songs, including the show-closing chorus of "Tonight's the Night" at the end of the song "The Big Beast", as well as the Young tunes "Out on the Weekend" and "Walk On“.) 28.00
MARCY LUARKS & CLASSIC TOUCH - Electric Murder LP (kalita - It’s grail time! Kalita are honoured to officially release for the first time since 1983 Marcy Luarks & Classic Touch's mythical American-Nigerian Afro boogie masterpiece 'Electric Murder', accompanied by extensive liner notes based on interviews with Marcy's family and producer Daniel Irabor. The product of the then husband and wife team of Marcy and Dan, 'Electric Murder' brought together both the former's American and the latter's Nigerian roots; recorded in London with UK-based session musicians, this mix of heritage and styles resulted in an Afro disco album unlike any other. ) 25.00
MILES DAVIS - Water Babies LP (columbia - "Water Babies is a compilation album by American jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. It compiled music Davis recorded in studio sessions with his quintet in 1967 and 1968, including outtakes from his 1968 album Nefertiti and recordings that foreshadowed his direction on In a Silent Way (1969), while covering styles such as jazz fusion and post-bop. MILITARIE GUN - All Roads Lead To The Gun II LP (convulsive - back in stock on Purple Vinyl - "Last year, when everything shut down, Regional Justice Center leader Ian Shelton started a new project called Militarie Gun, and he posted a two-song demo on Bandcamp. Shelton’s Militarie Gun songs weren’t much like the fast and brutal hardcore of RJC. They were still loud and heavy and angry — still hardcore — but they also had melodies and hooks and ’90s-style noise-rock riffs. Militarie Gun soon became a full-on band. Now, they’ve released their third EP. After that demo, Militarie Gun released the 2020 EP My Life Is Over and then, earlier this year, another EP called All Roads Lead To The Gun. That was one of two EPs that they planned to release this year. The second, All Roads Lead To The Gun II, is out now. It’s four new songs of gruff, mean, catchy guitar music." - Stereogum) 23.00
PETER BRÖTZMANN / MILFORD GRAVES / WILLIAM PARKER - Historic Music Past Tense Future DLP (black editons - Black Editions presents “Historic Music Past Tense Future,” the first ever album to feature the meeting of Peter Brötzmann, Milford Graves and William Parker. Three of the towering figures in the history of Free Jazz forge an incredibly vital free music born from lifetimes of uncompromising, ceaseless artistry. “Historic Music Past Tense Future” is the inaugural release by Black Editions Archive and the first in a series of records that will present previously unreleased works featuring Milford Graves. “In the end, the music expresses what it means to be alive, to act on behalf of life. It struts and rails, sings and screams. It confronts fear and anger and transcends them through beauty, sound, and honesty. It ́s not about false comfort, it ́s about truth—a knotty, complicated thing that calls for a knotty, complicated, and sometimes comfortless art..” —Ed Hazell, liner notes “It ́s not easy, it ́s not a little Sunday ride. It ́s heavy.” —Peter Brötzmann) 45.00
SHABAKA AND THE ANCESTORS - Wisdom Of Elders DLP (brownswood - Wisdom of the Elders was recorded in Johannesburg in 2015 on one of many trips Shabaka Hutchings took there to immerse himself in the country’s rich musical heritage. The album is a psalm in nine parts. An episodic unfurling of a sonic journey across the Atlantic. “The grand scheme of this album is to present the musical language that I normally associate with my UK bands in the context of SA musicians and musical sensibilities,” explains Shabaka Hutchings. ) 30.00
RAW HONEY - river bed LP (life like - Michigan songwriter Maggie Hopp has been a friend for years, and while she's been making music under the Raw Honey moniker since 2014 or so, Riverbed is the first proper collection of Maggie's gently disarming songs. Carefully constructed over the course of over a year, the album is held together by threads of spirituality, grief, raw self-inspection, and observations made while moving slowly through the world. A cast of friends add to the layers of instrumentation, and unexpected guitar tones and production choices result in a beautiful album that moves like mist. This is a work of art years in the making that sounds not quite like any other. Mastering by Warren DeFever at Detroit's Thrid Man labs takes the songs to new levels of clarity, and the cover painting from Ypsilanti artist Jim Cherewick hints at Riverbed's uncommon colors and personality. Limited to 200 copies on pressed on vinyl of various different desert colors. Full color jackets and lyric sheets.) 26.00
ROBERT STILLMAN - Portals (2022 Remaster) LP (orindal - Portals is an album of minimal electric piano improvisations by UK-based multi-instrumentalist & composer Robert Stillman. Inspired by American ‘new-age’ luminaries like Laraaji, Iasos, and Stephen Halpern, Stillman’s layers of playful, meditative electric piano figures, saturated by warm tape hiss & psychedelic delay effects, are occasionally accompanied by “found sound” field recordings, creating a compelling yet calming listening experience.) 25.00
ROBERT STILLMAN - What Does It Mean to Be American? LP (orindal -What Does it Mean to Be American? is the eighth solo album by Margate, UK based composer & multi-instrumentalist Robert Stillman. Performed, recorded & mixed almost entirely by Stillman, the seven tracks on What Does it Mean to Be American? are experimental in the purest sense of the word; Stillman's composition & recording techniques rely heavily on improvisation, which often sends his music in surprising directions. Elements of jazz, drone, funk, blues, psychedelia, new age & chamber music are referenced, often subconsciously, but Stillman's music ultimately defies adherence to any particular genre.) 25.00
SIBYLLE BAIER - Colour Green LP (orange twin - Recorded in the early 70's in her home on a reel to reel recording device, the songs on "Colour Green" are intimate portraits of life's sad and fragile beauty. "Sibylle Baier is a German folk singer and actress whose musical abilities achieved belated recognition with the 2006 release of the album Colour Green, compiled from songs she had recorded in the early 1970s. Having played guitar and piano as a young girl, she was moved to write her first song, "Remember The Day", after taking a road trip with a friend across the Alps to Genoa, via Strasbourg. She appeared in Wim Wenders' 1973 film Alice in the Cities, and her music is also featured in Umarmungen und andere Sachen (1975) and in Wim Wenders' "Palermo Shooting" (2008) . Baier opted not to pursue an acting or singing career, and eventually moved to America where she concentrated on raising a family. ) 26.00
THE SILVERTONES - Silver Bullets LP (anarctica starts here - "The Silvertones were steeped in the grand tradition of Jamaican vocal trios along with other greats such as The Heptones, The Abyssinians and The Kingstonians. Formed in 1964 by Delroy Denton, Keith Coley and Gilmore Grant, the group recorded under a variety of names in the ska and rocksteady era for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle and Coxsone Dodd's Studio One, before hooking up with producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry. Originally released in 1973, The Silvertones' debut Silver Bullets was recorded at Perry's Black Ark studio with vocal tracks captured at King Tubby's Dromilly Avenue studio in a marathon, all-night session. While firmly planted in roots reggae, Silver Bullets' dense harmonies and relaxed vibe harken back to rocksteady. The album marks an interesting point in Jamaican music where the past and the future are visible in the grooves of a single LP -- from classic rocksteady-tinged love songs like 'That's When It Hurts' and 'Rock Me In Your Soul' to the Rasta anthem 'Rejoice Jah Jah Children.' Antarctica Starts Here presents the first widely available domestic release of Silver Bullets. This reissue is part of an archival series that focuses on Trojan's essential '60s and '70s catalogue. Liner notes by JR Gonne.“) 26.00
TOHO SARA - Toho Sara DLP (black editions - Black Editions present a reissue of Toho Sara's self-titled album, originally released in 1995. A mystifying work of Japanese avant-garde shamanism, Toho Sara's 1995 debut introduced a radical new sound from Asahito Nanjo (High Rise), Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mothers Temple), and Hisashi Yasuda -- playing an array of ancient instruments including tabla, piri, harmonium, biwa, shakujo, and hansho the group evokes an otherworldly ritual music, meditative and haunting. Originally released on CD by P.S.F. Japan, newly expanded, remastered and available for the first time ever on vinyl. Pressed to high quality vinyl at RTI. WET LEG - s/t LP (domino - After releasing two of the hottest singles of the year, Wet Leg’s Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers were catapulted from their confines on the Isle of Wight to sold out venues across the UK and packed-out tents at festivals causing giddy excitement wherever they went. YAMASH'TA & THE HORIZON - Sunrise From West Sea LP (we want sound - Wewantsounds is releasing the first-ever release of 'Sunrise From West Sea', a mesmerising performance by Stomu Yamash'ta accompanied by Jazz pianist Masahiko Satoh (well known for his involvement in the New Herd Orchestra and his 'Belladonna of Sadness' soundtrack) and Taj Mahal Travellers founder Takehisa Kosugi on Electric Violin. The line up, also comprising Hideakira Sakurai on Electric Shamisen, is a spaced-out improvisational soundscape over the two LP sides. Remastered from the original tapes, the album is reissued here for the first time ever on LP. The LP comes in its beautiful original gatefold artwork with OBI strip, 2 page insert and a new introduction by journalist Paul Bowler.) 33.00
YUSSEF KAMAAL - Black Focus LP (restock - The borders between London’s musical tribes have always been porous. For Yussef Kamaal, the sound of the capital – with its hum of jungle, grime and broken beat – has shaped a self-taught, UK-tipped approach to playing jazz. In the states, the genre’s long-running to-and-fro with hip hop – from Robert Glasper to Kamasi Washington – has reimagined it within US culture. On Black Focus, Yussef Kamaal frame jazz inside the bass-saturated, pirate radio broadcasts of London. Taking inspiration from the anything-goes spirit of ‘70s jazz-funk, on albums by Herbie Hancock or the Mahavishnu Orchestra, it’s a loose template with plenty of room to experiment. The pair, made up of Yussef Dayes and Kamaal Williams (aka Henry Wu), have had little in the way of formal training. Instead, their musical tastes – and approach to playing – are indebted to Thelonious Monk’s piano as much as the drum programming of Kaidi Tatham. ) 25.00
ZIAD RAHBANI & JOSEPH SACRE - Bennesbeh Labokra Chou LP (we want sound - A studio version of a 3-part live recording composed by Ziad Rahbani, with the vocals of Joseph Sacre. The tracks: ‘Esmaa Ya Reda’, ‘Oghneyat Al Bostah’ and ‘Aayesh Wahda Balak’ were local hits and still popular in Lebanon. Beyond the traditional music, this LP includes two instrumental interludes and ‘Al Taheyah’ which are fused with western compositions. ‘Introduction 1’ combines a cinematic introduction and a groove inspired by Bossa Nova, built up with the sound of Arabic flutes.) 30.00
TAPES
LIA KOHL - Too Small to be a Plain TAPE (I decided to treat my process like gathering tiny beach rocks -- nothing stands on its own initially but after a few months you find yourself with a collection,” says Chicago cellist, composer, and improviser Lia Kohl. She’s talking about beginning work on her album Too Small To Be A Plain, which began as experiments in creating small bits of music every day. For years, Kohl has worked in collaboration with artists, ensembles, and bands, either in projects of her own or lending her skill to others. Recently, though, she’s begun cultivating work in a solo capacity, spurred by the allure of continuous creation. “Every day I would go into my studio and make something,” she explains, “even if it was a one minute synth loop or a tiny cello improvisation.” The result is a surreal, moody assemblage incorporating cello, synthesizer, field recordings, and radio, a testament to both patient, layered building and tender attention to the people, instruments, and technology around us.) 12.00
MYRIAM GENDRON – Ma Délire TAPE (feeding tube - It has been a while since the release of Myriam’s acclaimed 2014 debut album, Not So Deep As a Well (Feeding Tube). The intervening years have brought a smattering of live performances, a bouquet of children, Trump’s Pandemic, and much more. For someone who likes to read and ponder as much as Ms. Gendron does, there has been plenty to mull over. Different concepts for a new album were broached, but the seed of Ma Délire was planted when Myriam recalled a paper she written in university. It was about Leonard Cohen’s recording of “The Lost Canadian (Un canadien errant)” from Recent Songs. Ostensibly a cover of an old Quebecois ballad, Cohen stripped away the specificity of the lyrics, tying the song’s titular figure to the archetype of The Wandering Jew (cursed to walk the earth after tormenting Jesus).) 16.00
PADNA - rimessa truppa suite vol. 3 TAPE (orange milk - This is the 3rd and final installment of Padna’s, ‘rimessa truppa suite’ series. The original seeds for this idea came from a commute home listening to the Afternoon New Music show on WKCR. Through this show Padna (Nat Hawks) was exposed to the playful side of minimalism and experimental music. When he sat down to start work on this album Nat imagined a high school jazz band in the 70s jamming after hours. That’s where his ideas for this series started to take root. ) 8.00
WHITE SUNS - dead time TAPE (orange milk - Extreme rock music, like hardcore punk or metal, has always been a really compelling genre to us. Most who participate are expected to only add to a tradition. There are a few bands who use these styles to mold something entirely different. White Suns to us is one of those bands, where the line between metal, noise, abstract sound blend cohesively. Here they hone the tortuous sprawl into a concentrated batch of mutant synth punk. Blown-out drums thrash against walls of noise, all sinking into shadowy pulses and feedback. The friction exudes frustration, explosion, and finishes with catharsis. An excellent release from a band that in our opinion are often underrated despite the quality of their output.) 8.00
