ASTRID ØSTER MORTENSEN - Gro Mig En Blomst LP (grapefruit - a few back in stock - We first heard the Danish artist Astrid Øster Mortensen as a surprise guest vocalist on Gustaf Dicksson’s Blod album, Missväxt, which Grapefruit released in 2021. New in Gothenburg, the Denmark-born Astrid had been frequenting the Discreet Music shop where various musicians of the underground scene communed and shared their latest projects. Learning that she was a musician too, Gustaf asked Astrid to contribute vocals to Missväxt and it wasn’t long before Astrid handed over a master of her own music which completely floored everyone in the scene who heard it. The recordings eventually materialized as “Gro Mig En Blomst.” An LP which was released in a very small edition on Gustaf’s Förlag För Fri Musik label in March of 2021, causing a sensation of wonder and well-earned praise and some panic due to its scarcity.) 32.00
A HANDFUL OF DUST - The Drum Is The Shaman's Horse LP (carbon - With the death in 2020 of long-standing occasional third member Peter Stapleton (percussion/electronics), A Handful of Dust has regrouped as the core duo of Alastair Galbraith (violin, guitar, cello, piano, drums) and Bruce Russell (guitar, electronics). This new set of live-to-four-track recordings from January 2022 is the first album to be wholly recorded 'in the studio' since 1995's Towards a Soundtrack to the 'Anabase' of St-John Perse. Committed to tape at the Rugby Hotel in Dunedin, the four-track recordings were played back in the room where they were made and recorded again, this time to Android telephone, to make a digital mono master which you hear on this record. Unadorned, brutal and sonically austere, this new set captures the 'wild Mercury sound' for which this long-standing unit is rightly feted among cognoscenti of the Antipodean New Thing.) 28.00
BAD BRAINS - Omega Sessions LP (org - The Omega Sessions is a 5-song EP recorded by Bad Brains in 1980 and released in 1997. The tracks were recorded and mixed at the original Omega Recording Studios in Rockville, Maryland. The EP contains early versions of songs that eventually appeared on later releases, including a reading of "I Against I." Side B of the LP features a custom etching. This reissue marks the seventh release in the remaster campaign, re-launching the Bad Brains Records label imprint. In coordination with the band, Org Music has overseen the restoration and remastering of the iconic Bad Brains’ recordings. The audio was mastered by Dave Gardner and pressed at Furnace Record Pressing.) 26.00
BILDERS / BILL DIREEN - Dustbin of Empathy LP (grapefruit - The NZ-American *Bilders* brings *Matt Swanson (Lambchop,* *My Dad Is Dead*) and *Alex McManus (Vic Chesnutt, Lambchop)* into the fold, all with acclaimed albums in their saddlebags. Quality production and mature song themes reflect a lot of pure experience. /*Dustbin of Empathy*/ opens with a voyage across Europe and down the generations, a tribute to the small people who survive massive events. One tune has an anti-war bias. Peace! Another is a trip of a kind — Angel (The Astronomer) is an eerie voyage into the “sinuses” of space. Most of the tunes were co-written, a couple were penned by Direen alone. High quality recordings, and the pedigree of the musicians, should make this unexpected album a pearl of 2024. It is hard to choose a stand-out track for campus stations — alluring “Lately Rain”, epic /Citizens of Nowhere/, the harder edge of Anvil Dark, lap-steel engraved Scaribus or already WFMU-blooded Custody of Love? Pure quality to take you from /Dustbin///right the way back to/Empathy/. ) 30.00
BITTER WISH - Candle Finger LP (Carbon - Formed in Philadelphia during the COVID days of fall 2021, Bitter Wish is a psychedelic power trio comprising guitarist John Comune, bassist Clint Takeda (Bardo Pond/Double Wig) and percussionist Scott Verrastro (Kohoutek/Heavy Lidders). While the band doesn't stray far from its Bardo Pond and Kohoutek roots, they incorporate more repetition and minimalism into their fuzzy vibe. Freeform psych - the children of Fire Music parents secretly raised on Sabbath… Candle Finger, Bitter Wish’s debut full-length, is comprised of two side-long jammers. Both sides are untitled, with side A starting out with nearly 10 minutes of psychedelic bass swells, light percussion, and soloing guitar, guiding the listener down the tunnel, just in time for the proverbial freight-train heading their way. It eventually builds into a faster-than-mid tempo scorcher, with heavily phaser-drenched bass, steady drumming with just the right number of fills, and that soloing guitar, still leading the listener on through to the other side of the mountain pass, before chilling things out before its time to flip the record.) 30.00
THE CAT'S MIAOW - Songs '94-'98 LP (world of echo - FINALLY REPRESSED. Songs ’94-’98 is a smart selection of material from The Cat’s Miaow, an Australian indie-pop group that gifted their decade with some of its finest songs. Released on World Of Echo, the album draws from the group’s string of excellent seven-inch singles, a small clutch of compilation contributions, and features one previously unreleased song, “I Take It That We’re Through”, recorded in 1998. Part of the burgeoning international pop underground of the nineties, The Cat’s Miaow’s legend has only built over subsequent decades, as more people discover this most quixotic and curious of groups: a recent appearance on A Colourful Storm’s compilation of Australian indie-pop, I Won’t Have To Think About You, is testament to their enduring influence. In part emulating the selection of tracks on the 1997 CD-only compilation, Songs For Girls To Sing, Songs ’94-’98 is also the group’s first ever full-length 12” vinyl collection – and if you score a copy of the initial edition, there’s an extra 7” featuring all the songs from their “Third Floor Fire Escape View” recording session. ) 30.00
COIL - Moon's Milk (In Four Phases) 3xLP BOXSET (DAIS - First compiled as a double CD in 2002, 'Moon’s Milk (In Four Phases)' is a suite of four EPs that Coil released seasonally via their in-house Eskaton imprint across 1998. The line-up for these sessions were John Balance, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, Drew McDowall, and William Breeze. Recorded primarily at their home studio in Chiswick, London on the eve of a permanent relocation to the small seaside town of Weston-Super- Mare, the collection has long loomed as a pivotal and pinnacle work in the group's discography, but has never been officially reissued, or repressed on vinyl. Time has only ripened its tapestry of regal strangeness.) 78.00
ETHAN WL - Blood Farm LP (carbon - “This is my latest album, about 40 straight minutes of acoustic guitar. All originals, live takes, and no overdubs. Filmmaker and Journalist Bill Lichtenstein told me that it ‘sounds like Mississippi Fred McDowell.’ On the last track my friend Isabel plays a tanpura that I had just acquired a few days before from an old acquaintance of John Fahey’s in Takoma Park.” - Ethan WL) 28.00
FULCI - Duck Face Killings LP (20 buck spin - The infamous Italian director Lucio Fulci created many of horror and exploitation cinema’s most memorable and vivid visions of the supernatural, sadistic and salacious. Zombi 2, The Beyond, City of the Living Dead, The House by the Cemetery and more left an indelible impression on the minds of many an impressionable youth. The Italian Death Metal band Fulci were so possessed by their countryman’s work, they named the band after him, with each album being a concept and tribute based on one of his films. For the band’s 4th bloodthirsty full length, and first for 20 Buck Spin after a steadily growing profile in the Death Metal underground over the last several years, Fulci presents ‘Duck Face Killings’, a homage to one of Lucio’s most depraved and reviled films, ‘The New York Ripper’. In his book ‘Beyond Terror: The Films of Lucio Fulci’ author (and one time Coil member) Stephen Thrower says “"The New York Ripper is a nihilistic vision of Hell on Earth. No-one matters. No-one cares [...] Fulci's film offers a powerful vision of a world where love has curdled away into poison and death. Life goes on alright, as the soundtrack suggests over the credits, with its 'just another day in the Big Bad Apple' inflection and junk-funk facelessness: but in a climate of absolute zero." Perhaps only the director’s most ardent apologists can confess to a guilty pleasure in the film.) 30.00
K. YOSHIMATSU - Fossil Cocoon: The Music Of K. Yoshimatsu LP (phantom limb - Cult Japanese outsider composer K. Yoshimatsu’s key 1980’s works are collected and reissued for the first time on new career retrospective Fossil Cocoon, binding ambient, abstract punk, music concréte and purist songwriting into a single unified artform. Over a furiously prolific period from 1980 to 1985, K. [Koshiro] Yoshimatsu composed, recorded and released some forty albums in the span of a few years. These records primarily appeared under his own name, some required aliases, and others saw him compose, arrange, and produce for friends and peers in his creative circle. All of them, however, surfaced on Japan’s cult and inimitably fertile DD. Records, an astonishingly exhaustive catalogue once described as “the most amazing DIY effort ever undertaken to document an alternative music scene”. Led by close Yoshimatsu associate T. [Tadashi] Kamada, DD. Records released exactly 222 cassettes of brazenly, addictively weird Japanese outsider music over a period of five years, each with typewritten liner notes and enigmatically constructed Xerox artwork of found materials. The cassettes remain the stuff of collectors’ dreams, fetching astronomic prices on the rare occasions they surface in record stores or private sales. However, a keen archivist, Koshiro Yoshimatsu’s master recordings remained in his possession (a not unreasonable outcome given that his work was all self-recorded in his home) and meticulously filed, ready for rediscovery. Conversely, label boss Tadashi Kamada is no longer in the public eye, and not even known to have any personal online presence. He is, writes one observer, “unlikely even aware of his cult following”. Only extensive retroactive cataloguing (ardently fuelled by the cratedigging detective work of German collector Jörg Optiz) can offer any remaining memorial to his extraordinary achievements with DD. Records.) 35.00
LÄUTEN DER SEELE – Die Reise zur Monsalwäsche LP (hands in the dark - Christian Schoppik aka Läuten der Seele brings his “Water” trilogy to a close with his new album ‘Die Reise zur Monsalwäsche’ (The Journey to Monsalwäsche) following up ‘Die Mariengrotte als Trinkwasseraufbereitungsanlage’ (2022, Hands in the Dark) and ‘Ertrunken im seichtesten Gewässer’ (2023, World of Echo). This final instalment takes the listener on a sacred odyssey searching for the fulfilment of one's (or is it his own?) spiritual destiny, from beginning (‘Entschluss, Abschied & Aufbruch’ / ‘Decision, Farewell & Departure’) to end (‘Verirrung, Ankunft & Erlösung’ / ‘Losing Way, Arrival & Salvation’). While the compositional technique of this opus still relies primarily on samples and altered audio-collages, each chapter of the trilogy was intentionally created from very different sources. The present collection is arguably less "experimental" than some of Läuten der Seele's previous works, as classical music takes center stage this time. However the mastery in crafting such magnificent and intriguing narratives sees the simplicity and emotional depth of these sonic mariages become the beauty of it all.

LIAM GRANT - Amoskeag LP (carbon - Although only 23 years old, Liam Grant's become a leading force in a much needed third wave revival of American Primitive music. The path was paved from the blues by Fahey, Basho, Kottke and so on, followed with a second coming heralded by folks like Jones, Rose, Basho-Junghans and others. Despite his age, Liam's the very definition of "an old soul" and while he draws on a wide variety of contemporary influences, he also channels a comprehensive history of the blues as well as a deeper energy that informs both his playing and songwriting. Features contributions from Mike Gangloff of Pelt, Grayson McGuire, and Ethan WL.) 28.00
LINDA SMITH & NANCY ANDREWS - A Passing Cloud LP (grapefruit - In 1983, Nancy Andrews and Linda Smith shared a big house in Baltimore with a continuously revolving cast of artists and musicians. It was there the like-minded artists formed their first band, Ceramic Madonna Head (with Plastic Arms), a short-lived project which included housemates Elizabeth Downing and Peggy Bitzer. By the time the lease was up, Linda and Peggy had decided to move to New York where they would form a new band called The Woods while Nancy and Elizabeth remained in Baltimore and formed a performance art band called Lambs Eat Ivy. While playing guitar in The Woods in the mid-80’s Linda purchased her first 4-track cassette recorder and embarked on a pioneering decade of solo, DIY home recording with a series of cassettes and 7” records of smart and moody singer-songwriter bedroom pop music. This trailblazing period was recently documented on the Captured Tracks retrospective compilation “Till Another Time: 1988-1996.” Her band, The Woods, made a record which was shelved for decades but will finally see release in 2023. During this same period Nancy pursued art, animation and filmmaking with occasional forays into music including another short-lived collaboration with Linda called The Gertrudes as well as a 7” under the alias Pinky on Harriet records in 1992. The friends stayed in touch but hadn’t worked on a project together in nearly thirty years.) 30.00
LINGUA IGNOTA - All Bitches Die LP (repressed - Limited Clear Vinyl. LINGUA IGNOTA, the solo project of multidisciplinary artist Kristin Hayter, takes a radical, unflinching approach to themes of violence and vengeance in ways that are moving, brutal, and harrowing. Her music is intentionally situated at specific and strange intersections, incorporating elements of power electronics, death industrial, and black metal alongside baroque classical, spiritual minimalism and folk. Relentless intensity and soaring dramatic arcs are informed by Hayter’s background in classical music, and the major sonic locus of the project is her voice, a dynamic entity that rushes from unhinged screaming to lilting soprano to angular belting with an artistry and ferocity that has drawn comparisons to Diamanda Galas. She is notorious for confrontational live performances that can leave an audience breathless or in tears. ) 28.00
LINGUA IGNOTA - Caligula DLP (repressed - Limited Clear Vinyl. “CALIGULA”, the new album from LINGUA IGNOTA, takes the vision of Kristin Hayter’s vessel to a new level of grandeur, her purging and vengeful audial vision going beyond anything preceding it and reaching a new unparalleled sonic plane within her oeuvre. Succeeding her self-released 2017 “All Bitches Die” opus (re-released by Profound Lore Records in 2018), “CALIGULA” sees Hayter design her most ambitious work to date, displaying the full force of her talent as a vocalist, composer, and storyteller. Vast in scope and multivalent in its influences, with delivery nothing short of demonic, “CALIGULA” is an outsider’s opera; magnificent, hideous, and raw. Eschewing and disavowing genre altogether, Hayter builds her own world. Here she fully embodies the moniker Lingua Ignota, from the German mystic Hildegard of Bingen, meaning “unknown language” — this music has no home, any precedent or comparison could only be uneasily given, and there is nothing else like it in our contemporary realm. ) 35.00
MARGO GURYAN - Take A Picture LP (numero - Take A Picture is Margo Guryan's one and done classic _ one of record collecting's real unheralded masterpieces _ bright, breezy, lightly psychedelic, and utterly cosmopolitan, recorded in New York City no less. Newly restored by Jessica Thompson from the original two-track safety masters, this beguilingly melodic 1968 pop tour-de-force has never sounded better. ) 28.00
NATHAN BOWLES TRIO - Are Possible LP (drag city - Are Possible is a spark-throwing, undulating fusion of styles played (mainly) on banjo, upright bass and drums, made possible by the individual perspectives of Nathan, double-bassist Casey Toll (Jake Xerxes Fussell, Mt. Moriah) and drummer Rex McMurry (CAVE) work together in an easy-rolling manner, but one that contains an expansive, ass-shaking confabulation of ideas.) 34.00
REVEREND KRISTIN MICHAEL HAYTER - Saved! LP (SAVED! is an apocalyptic revelation on the complex, sometimes ugly, always nonlinear process of healing. Herein, Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter documents an earnest attempt to achieve salvation through the tenets of charismatic Christianity, focusing on the Pentecostal-Holiness Movement, which dictate that one’s closeness to God is demonstrated through transcendental personal experience. Sonically and thematically, the record is both a logical conclusion to and a significant departure from Hayter’s previous work as Lingua Ignota. Mirroring her personal evolution away from pain, she sheds the moniker that made her successful for its unflinching expression of lived trauma and instead builds herself anew, claiming her full given name, determined to see value within. Musically, while she continues to use historical avant-garde technique and formal constraints superimposed over accessible frameworks, she also strips down her instrumentation and degrades audio to provide a sense of musicological antiquity. Similar to Lingua Ignota, the record is steeped in pathos, but now the wrath of God gives way to His deliverance: “His boundless love shall make you whole.”) 30.00
ROY MONTGOMERY - Island Of Lost Souls LP (grapefruit - Roy Montgomery, a pioneer of the NZ underground, believes there is always new sonic terrain to investigate. His latest album for Grapefruit marks forty years of rigorous exploration in which he's managed to navigate disparate genres, scenes, and atmospheres, always at the forefront of experimental independent music. To commemorate, Grapefruit will be releasing four new Montgomery albums in 2021 which can be purchased individually or via subscription. Island of Lost Souls is the first. Island of Lost Souls follows his acclaimed 2018 LP Suffuse – a novel departure in which he consigned all vocal duties to ambient/experimental peers Liz Harris (of Grouper), Julianna Barwick, Purple Pilgrims, Haley Fohr (of Circuit des Yeux), Katie von Schleicher, and She Keeps Bees. But the veteran evolves again. On Island of Lost Souls, Montgomery creates resounding, aerial compositions for guitar. Where some might be inclined to relax and lean into their legacy at this stage in a sprawling career, Montgomery’s new music continues to seek and challenge, moving like the eye of a storm. ) 23.00
SANDY HARLESS - Songs LP (numero - "Arriving as the hippy movement was discovering its peaceful easy '70s feelings, Sandy Harless' Songs LP is Chillicothe, Ohio's lone contribution to the Cosmic American Music movement. Financed from a 27-aquarium fish breeding business, the album shows its Appalachian roots with a tight weave of mountain folk, rural rock, and pastoral country. Real people music.") 28.00
SLÜG / BRAIN TOURNIQUET - Split LP (LG records - Hear the brutal anguish and aural suffering! LG Records has gathered out-of-print and unreleased recordings by two of San Diego’s more infamous and obscure punk bands from the very early 1990’s onto one blistering split LP. Often remembered merely as side-projects of Heroin and End of the Line, Sloog (aka Slug) and Brain Tourniquet were standalone outfits that were beloved locally but barely made any impact outside of the local San Diego scene. Sloog were heavy, tortuous, and disturbing. Fronted by mysterious and odiferous local character “Justinman”, Sloog sounded like they could have been the lovechild of Savage Republic and United Mutation. Brain Tourniquet were a younger thrash band who were noticably inspired by contemporaries like Born Against and Crossed Out. Primitive and sublime, members went on to bigger things, but this was the not-so-humble beginning.) 30.00
THE SOFTIES - The Bed I Made LP (The Softies, comprised of Rose Melberg and Jen Sbragia, embody timeless themes of friendship and self-discovery through their minimalist pop soundworld. Since their formation in 1994, they've created uncluttered and fearlessly vulnerable music, contrasting with prevailing trends. The Bed I Made, The Softies’ first new studio album in 24 years, showcases growth while reflecting on life's complexities with lyrics drawn from real experiences. Despite individual pursuits and personal losses, Melberg and Sbragia reunite, channeling grief and rejuvenation into an album that captures the essence of their enduring friendship and offers hope and renewal amid life's challenges. Through their perfectly-paired harmonies and telepathic playing, they navigate the present, past, and future, offering a poignant continuation of their musical legacy, resonating like time spent with an old friend who knows you best.) 28.00
SUPER DJATA BAND - Volume 2 LP (numero - Connecting Wasulu hunter music, griot praises, Senufo pastoral dances, Fula and Mandingo repertoire alongside Western psychedelia, blues and afro-beat, Zani Diabaté’s Super Djata Band was among Mali’s top orchestras of the 1980s. On their 1982 album, Diabaté enshrines himself within the pantheon of mythical West African guitarists, hypnotically picking through eight vivid compositions on his path to godhead status.

TARA CLERKIN TRIO - In Spring LP (world of echo - back in stock - In Spring is the second record by Tara Clerkin Trio, a Bristol-based group who appeared to emerge from below the radar of near-all in early 2020 and in the presence of one of the most captivating records of that year. This latest 23 minute, four song collection, recorded in various stages and locations over the last twelve months, does nothing to detract from those first impressions, refining the woozy and shimmering oddness of their debut into an avant-pop sensibility that is increasingly their own.
If the group did arrive fully formed, what that form was did feel supple and hard to grasp. They were, in a sense, essentially new sounding, or at least ghosts between the established lines, and with this new record have doubled-down on their inherently Delphian instinct. At its heart, In Spring is a record of subtle contrasts, experimental yet familiar in its intimacy, obviously modern though tied to certain lineages, and driven by a pop logic which is also free-form and seemingly improvised. Their approach to sound is perhaps the guiding principle here, less concerned with genre as it istexture and feeling, drawing from jazz, folk, modern composition, trip hop and downtempo electronica, yet evading all of those categorisations. Tara Clerkin Trio are too generous of heart to be ripping up any rulebook, they simply seem oblivious to its need.) 25.00
TARA CLERKIN TRIO - On The Turning Ground LP (world of echo - BACK IN STOCK - Not far off two years from the day, Bristol's Tara Clerkin Trio return to World of Echo and the EP format for a five song collection of quixotic, emotional redolence. But do not mistake their absence for inertia. If their musical output has been a little sparse during those in-between years, limited to a few solo ventures and an astonishing ten minute long piece as a trio, their time has otherwise been richly spent: continuous writing and recording, extensive live performances across Europe and Japan, a cultivation of local and more far-flung artistic connections (musical and otherwise), and a monthly NTS show that, through the voice of others, speaks most obviously to their own unorthodox interests. It's the conflux of that winding activity that leads indirectly to On The Turning Ground, 26 minutes of probing, thoughtful composition that draws from no one specific source. ) 25.00
TASTE 番⻑ - I Dipped My Comb In Shochu And Ran It Through The Hair Of The Night LP (carbon - I dipped my comb in shochu and ran it through the hair of the night is the brand new release from the intriguing trio 番長 Taste, consisting of Mark Anderson (Greymouth/Mysteries of Love, New Zealand), Anthony Guerra (Love Chants/Mysteries of Love, Australia) and mysterious rocker ‘Mariyo’ (Japan). The name 番長 is pronounced ‘Bancho’, so the band name is Bancho Aji/Taste. This release consists of 12 tracks, 6 tracks from the Carbon CD release Summer Nights, 2 tracks from the I Dischi Del Barone 7”, and 4 BRAND NEW UNRELEASED tracks! This is raw no-wave, free-noise awesomeness. Like if DNA did a surf record, and so perfectly crude, it makes Smashchords sound like Emerson Lake & Palmer in comparison.) 32.00
THROBBING GRISTLE - The Third Mind Movements DLP (mute - Throbbing Gristle unveils a brand new reissue of The Third Mind Movements, released commercially for the first time on CD and vinyl via Mute. Formed in 1975, Throbbing Gristle, aka Chris Carter, Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson (1955-2010), Cosey Fanni Tutti, and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (1950-2020), fully delivered on punk’s failed promise to explore extreme culture as a way of sabotaging systems of control. Their impact on music, culture, and the arts has been immeasurable and still felt today. Having reformed in 2004, Throbbing Gristle’s The Third Mind Movements initially emerged as an exclusive release only available on the band’s last ever American tour in 2009, before they split again in 2010. The tour, which saw them perform in the US for the first time in 28 years, included their first shows in NY and an appearance at Coachella festival. The Third Mind Movements album, recorded during the Desertshore sessions at the ICA, London several years earlier – a series of six live recordings from the ICA attended by an attentive audience - journeys through manipulated, time-stretched and distorted samples, with rhythmical breakbeats and hypnotic oscillations of electronics. The Third Mind Movements is released alongside TGCD1 - both vital additions for dedicated Throbbing Gristle and industrial music fans.) 33.00
THROBBING GRISTLE - TGCD1 LP (mute - Throbbing Gristle revisits TGCD1, long out of print, now available on vinyl for the first time ever via Mute. This release includes the original sleeve notes by all the members of the band, uncovering the story and ethos behind TG’s independent record label, Industrial Records. Formed in 1975, Throbbing Gristle, aka Chris Carter, Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson (1955-2010), Cosey Fanni Tutti, and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (1950- 2020), fully delivered on punk’s failed promise to explore extreme culture as a way of sabotaging systems of control. Their impact on music, culture, and the arts has been immeasurable and still felt today. Originally released on Mute’s imprint, The Grey Area, in 1986, TGCD1 comprises forty-two minutes of studio recordingscaptured at their own Industrial Records Studio on a TEAC 8-Track in 1979. Initially serving as an exclusive piece of unreleased material for TG’s first-ever CD release, the record’ dark and harsh droning sound stands as a significant chapter in their discography, showcasing the band during, arguably, their most formative era. TGCD1 is reissued alongside The Third Mind Movements - both vital additions for dedicated Throbbing Gristle and industrial music fans.) 30.00
WILL VEEDER - The Lost And Found LP (carbon - A combination of finger-picking acoustic and electric guitar with percussion. American-primitive psych. Will Veeder is a master at conjuring up vivid images and emotions, using a combination of folk and psych elements. RIYL Six Organs of Admittance and Robbie Basho. A mesmerizing blend of experimental American-primitive, intricate finger-picking guitar work, vocals, and percussion, all combining into a set of evocative compositions. Will Veeder is a multi-instrumentalist, but primarily sticks to guitar. Lately, he’s been delving deep into acoustic finger-picking guitar, while keeping with his unique vocal styling. Will spent his 20’s in the indie rock band Muler and then went on to lead the Americana-style indie rock group Hinkley, who released 6 full-length releases, most of which were also released by Carbon Records.) 28.00
TAPES
BILDERS / BILL DIREEN - Nictate TAPE (grapefruit - Nictate's Side A is mostly Direen/McManus/Swanson spillovers from the Dustbin relay sessions, an alternative route from the LP. But this is no residuum. In 22 minutes, six tales of marginality pass by cafés of experimentalism and heresy, intersecting with psycho-acoustic secrets known only to the sound producers. Guests include distinctive piano from Tony Crow (The Thieves, Lambchop), the grace of Hawk and a Hacksaw's Heather Trost (violin) and Jeremy Barnes' scene-setting accordion (Hawk and a Hacksaw, Neutral Milk Hotel). Side B is no B Side. Fifteen micro-songs by the NZ Otago Bilders group made up of Direen, composer and multi-performer Steve Cournane (Alpaca Brothers), William Henry Meung (found instruments, outlier circuit-bent synths) and long-time Dunedin denizen, expatriate American violinist Alan Starrett (also erhu). The music grew from a book published by Grapefruit in 2023 ('100 Years of Darkness'). The result was fifteen micro-tunes that fit together like an armadillo’s tiles. Separation, horror, war brutality, the mentally ill, the beauty ofchildren … jagged and smooth fragments of an entire story-film, compact and committed as any Bilders project. ) 18.00

MY TEETH NEED ATTENTION - Issue #3 ZINE + 7“ (This issue of My Teeth Need Attention includes interviews with Jackson Wingate (Flipped Out, Burnt Hills), Joe Piccirillo (Minimum Table Stacks), photos, fiction, reviews, and more. Jackson has been notoriously averse to doing interviews in the past, but with the encouragement from Eric Hardiman, MTNA reached out and Jackson graciously agreed, delving into his history, including the Erl and Flipped Out labels/stores, as well as the long running basement heads-collective Burnt Hills. Ethan Swan’s approach to interviewing Joe Piccirillo of Minimum Table Stacks pulls out some great insight into the ideas behind the label, and Joe’s approach thus far. Ethan also completes the interview with a review of the label’s entire discography to date. The zine is: 7 inches x 7 inches, 60 pages, full color photocopy, saddle stitched. In the tradition of early issues of seminal underground zines like Bananafish, Muckraker, and Chemical Exposure, My Teeth Need Attention #3 includes a 7” EP with six exclusive tracks. Carbon challenged luminaries from drone, American primitive, improvisational, and experimental undergrounds to respond to the spacial limitations of a 7” comp, and the rewards are brisk punches of sound, revelations of style, and surprise detours from an international host of artists. Both sides end in locked grooves. 7” cover is a sketch variation of zine cover, printed in 3 color Riso, with multiple variants. Vinyl labels are hand-stamped.
