AMELIE - Gently Double A LP (day after - „Amelie Siba releases her third full-length album, Gently Double A. Recorded DIY, the album captures the search for self-confidence in a world that often makes too many demands on us. On this new album, sadness and bitter resignation of past recordings have been replaced by hope. The tendency towards self-destruction has been replaced by proactive self-care.“) 28.00
AMBASSADE - The Fool LP (optimo - Ambassade's 2019 'Duistre Kamers' album was a huge favourite here at Optimo Music towers so we jumped at the chance to release the follow up; 'The Fool'. Following hot in the heels of the acclaimed 'Young Birds / Palette' 12" on Optimo Music, 'The Fool' is destined to be another Cold Wave, Synth, New Industrial, Experimental ...whatever you want to call it ...classic. We asked Ambassade to tell us a bit about the album - Born from several years of research and contemplation on the human mind ‘The Fool’ can be understood as a reflection to the dark energies - natural, political, human and otherwise - that are released when it comes to religion, greed and power. ) 27.00
AXOLOTL - Abrasive LP (souffle - In 1981, encouraged by Jac Berrocal, Axolotl (Etienne Brunet and Jacques Oger on saxophones and clarinet, Marc Dufourd on electric guitar) recorded an album of French-style free music as iconoclastic as it was unsettling: free improvisation, jazz, no wave, contemporary, punk… a dance of labels which leaves plenty of place for the direct expression of a monstrous trio of regenerated agitators! The axolotl is a species of salamander native to Mexico, living in a state of larva and having the capacity to regenerate damaged organs. This brief introduction doesn’t tell us if the axolotl sings. But, for the one that concerns us here: yes indeed. In Paris, at the end of the 1970s, Etienne Brunet and Marc Dufourd would improvise regularly, inspired by some other saxophone-guitar duos: Claude Bernard-Raymond Boni firstly, then Evan Parker-Derek Bailey. When Jacques Oger (a saxophonist whom Brunet had met at a workshop given by Steve Lacy at the Châteauvallon festival in 1977) joined the duo Brunet-Dufourd, Axolotl was born. ) 28.00
BARNEY WILEN - Moshi DLP + DVD (souffle - back in stock - In 1970 Barney Wilen assembled a team of filmmakers, technicians and musicians to travel to Africa for the purpose of recordi ng the music of the native pygmy tribes. Upon returning to Paris two years later, he created Moshi, a dark, eccentric effort fusing avantjazz sensibilities with African rhythms, ambient sound effects and melodies rootedin American blues traditions. Cut withFrench and African players including guitarist Pierre Chaze, pianist Michel Graillier and percussionist Didier Leon , this is music with few precedents or followers, spanning from extraterrestrial dissonance to earthbound, streetlegal funk. Wilen pays little heed to conventional structure, assembling tracks like "Afrika Freak Out" and "Zombizar" from spare parts of inde terminate origins. (Jason Ankeny, AMG)) 40.00
BLOOD INCANTATION - Timewave Zero LP + CD (century media - Spawned in the Fall of 2011, Cosmic Death Metal initiates BLOOD INCANTATION, spent the past decade establishing a reputation for creating powerful Athmospheric Death Metal with progressive elements, while gradually incorporating more Psychedelic & Ambient components with each new release. The inevitable zenith of these increasingly exploratory excursions was finally reached during the summer of 2021 and captured once again on analog tape at World Famous Studios in Denver, Colorado. Epitomizing their Cosmic essence and Experimental nature, this new recording reveals an alternate dimension for experiencing the mind-bending songwriting of BLOOD INCANTATION´s dense & otherworldly sonic landscapes: Beyond the limitations of genre and free to travel among the stars.) 26.00
BOTCH - We Are The Romans DLP (Sargent house - Unless you've been living under a rock that's underneath another even bigger rock in a cave in the middle of nowhere, you probably already know what's up with this milestone of an album. Initially released in the year two grand, Botch's final full-length was/is the kind of devastating metallic hardcore explosion that the term "metallic hardcore" could/can only aspire to. In fact, these dudes nailed it so hard that the bands that came afterward had to start calling themselves "metalcore" out of respect.) 36.00
BOTCH - American Nervoso LP (Sargent house - Vinyl LP w/ Foil stamped jacket, printed inner sleeves + DL card. Legendary Tacoma, Washington mathcore/hardcore/metal band Botch's debut full-length American Nervoso was originally recorded in 1998, eventually becoming one of the most ground-breaking records during a pivotal shift in heavy music. Now, the band's debut album is set to be re-issued on Sargent House 25 years after its original release. The album features white-hot guitar action, scathing vocals, sweet bass moves, and torrential drums, smashing existing precepts of hardcore and redefining both the word and the music for a generation of kids and grizzled vets alike. Bassist Brian Cook, guitarist David Knudson, drummer Tim Latona, and vocalist Dave Verellen formed Botch in 1993, eventually becoming one of the most significant bands of their time. Their final show was June 15, 2002, the same day as the release of their final EP, An Anthology of Dead Ends. The members would go on to play in These Arms Are Snakes, Minus the Bear, and Russian Circles, among others, with acclaim for the band coming mostly post-breakup. Over 20 years since they played their final show, Botch are reuniting for select dates in the Pacific Northwest in February 2023. 25th anniversary re-issue of Botch's critically lauded debut album. Botch have their first live performances in over 20 years for early 2023. Botch have been included on "Most Influential lists" by outlets like Decibel, Rock Sound, Alternative Press, A.V. club + more) 30.00
CARLA BOREGAS - Pena Ao Mar LP (ideal - Brazilian experimental multi-instrumentalist Carla Boregas follows plates for Bokeh Versions and Hive Mind with a ghostly set of deep listening electronics that plays like a symphony for an imagined woodwind orchestra. Carla Boregas is best known from her tenure in São Paulo's genre-bending experimental post-punk scene, playing in long-running outfit Rakta as well as other related offshoots. Her solo material has been knottier to unpick, here developing ideas from a collection of unfinished fragments and notebook scribbles exploring the possibility of finding a wind instrument that could be played collectively by several musicians. Coinciding with the pandemic, however, she soon realised the inherent risks involved with sharing breath and so the concept took a different direction, with added resonance. Boregas developed a synthetic alternative, layering vocals and environmental recordings to suggest wind instrumentation without attempting to mimic it. The sounds here are airy, but rarely diegetic - on the title track, Boregas uses analog arpeggios and plucked, sustained tones to approximate the kosmische world of Ash Ra Tempel or more recently Emeralds, as if trapped in a wind tunnel, moved forward by an unseen force. There's a whisper of the ancient past that harmonises with Wojciech Rusin's speculative medieval gasps, and Bloedneus & de Snuitkever's severely underheard ‘Milli Mille’, an examination of the ancient Greek aulos. On ’Grafia Do Invisível' the sound is completely different again, but the concept remains, using precise analog drones and minuscule timbral shifts to imitate the character of a wind instrument and simultaneously harmonise with the deep listening meditations of Éliane Radigue and Kali Malone.) 27.00
CINDY - Why Not Now LP (tough love - “Everyone’s hoping that nobody sees/all our little efforts at dignity”This last line of the title track from Cindy’s fourth LP Why Not Now? works as a slogan for Karina Gill's evolving musical vision. Her music is simple out of necessity and introverted in delivery, but the songs contain vivid worlds and are quietly ambitious. With this latest batch, Gill pulled the process of making Cindy music even more inward. “Some of these songs were first recorded as demos alone in my basement. I think that process set the tone for the record…Maybe it set up a kind of starkness,” she says.) 30.00
CLARA ENGEL - hatching under the stars DLP (oscarsson - Clara Engel is one of those artists that you feel eternally grateful for stumbling across. The Toronto-based singer-songwriter has been quietly hypnotising listeners since 2004’s Jump Of Flame. 2016’s Visitors Are Allowed One Kiss would be my introduction yet Hatching Under The Stars may just be Engel’s masterpiece. From the moment the delicate instrumentation and Engel’s voice drift in, you know you’re listening to something incredibly special. “I’ve been trying to be brave” begins Engel over the sparse haunted-folk of To Keep The Ghost At Bay. The apparent sadness is balanced with a feeling of hope and a wide-eyed, cosmic sense of awe that permeates every note. It really is beautiful.(louder than war)) 28.00
CLUSTER – Zuckerzeit LP (superior viaduct -Cluster was the pioneering German duo of Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius. Formed on the cusp of the 1970s, they were a part of West Germany's nascent Kosmische Musik scene. The group would use restrained improvisational techniques similar to Gruppo Nuova Consonanza, working with both electric and acoustic instruments (organ, guitar, tone generators, cello, etc.) to create a singular sound that Julian Cope called "a huge beating heart, planet-sized and awesome."Following the release of Cluster II, the duo relocated to the village of Forst where they built a home studio and began to collaborate with like-minded artists such as Michael Rother and Brian Eno. 1974's Zuckerzeit, Cluster's first album made in their countryside studio, marked a major shift in their music from experimental noise to avant-pop. "Hollywood" starts things off with infectious loops, analog drum machines and sweeping synth. "Caramel" seems to pick up the pace even more; its sugary groove promptly dissolves into a sea of ethereal keyboards, amorphous layers and sparse chords.) 27.00
CLUSTER - Cluster II LP (superior - Cluster was the pioneering German duo of Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius. Formed on the cusp of the 1970s, they were a part of West Germany's nascent Kosmische Musik scene. The group would use restrained improvisational techniques similar to Gruppo Nuova Consonanza, working with both electric and acoustic instruments (organ, guitar, tone generators, cello, etc.) to create a singular sound that Julian Cope called "a huge beating heart, planet-sized and awesome.“ Originally released in 1972 on Brain, Cluster II features six pieces of atmospheric, proto-ambient drones – a step forward from Cluster's 1971 self-titled debut, which had all untitled songs. On "Im Suden," hypnotic bass pulsations and repetitive guitar patterns flow serenely, while side two opener "Live In Der Fabrik" dives deep into Roedelius and Moebius' foreboding industrial soundscapes and synergistic textural interplay. As Roedelius told Uncut magazine in 2022, "This feels like a breakthrough? Well, we were just getting more into it, and getting more experienced at being able to elaborate it. Conny (Plank) was working with us again – as well as being a multi-talented artist, he was a very experienced sound master and great human being. He contributed as a fellow musician, adding sounds with his mixing table such as reverb, delay and other effects enriching the whole pieces so that they finally became somehow unique.“ It's no surprise that when Neu! guitarist Michael Rother first heard Cluster II, he suggested a collaboration with the band – resulting in the supergroup Harmonia who would make their first album together the following year.) 27.00
CRISTOBAL TAPIA DE VEER - The White Lotus (Soundtrack from the HBO® Original Limited Series) DLP (wrwtfww - WRWTFWW Records is ecstatic to announce the first ever vinyl release for the remarkable soundtrack of HBO® hit series The White Lotus by Chilean born composer, arranger, music producer, multi-instrumentalist Cristobal “Cristo” Tapia de Veer (Utopia, Hunters, Black Mirror and many more). The limited edition double LP comes as white-colored 180g vinyl housed in a heavyweight gatefold sleeve with OBI and double-sided art print, and is available in a choice of 3 different artwork variants - each based on the series’ brilliant opening sequence concept by Plains of Yonder and illustrator Lezio Lopes. Tapia de Veer’s haunting 28-track score blends tribal percussion with charango, bass, atmospherics, and organic vocals from human and animals, superbly bringing to life the tension, the wildness, as well as the rare but precious serenity and romance felt throughout the guests’ adventurous stay at The White Lotus resort. Shamanic, sensual, feral, and mysterious, the soundtrack grows into a subconscious character of the story and provides one of the most visceral listening experiences in recent memory. ) 50.00
DAVID TOOP - Pink Spirit, Noir World DLP (foam of the - My intention with this music was to create an alchemy of the studio, to bring together impossible sounds, global voices and stories, obscure ethnographic narratives, new and ancient technologies, human and non-human species...’ - David Toop We are proud to launch our new library series with an incredible 12-track selection of music from David Toop. By compiling our favourite pieces from the albums originally released on Virgin, Pink Noir (1996) and Spirit World (1997), we have distilled the essence of this fruitful period into a new form: Pink Spirit, Noir World. Following the release of his debut solo album Screen Ceremonies (1995), David turned to a more expansive palate to record his next two LPs. Enlisting the help of a whole host of friends and collaborators who joined him in the Mark Angelo Studios, including the likes of Max Eastley, Toshinori Kondo, Musa Kalamula and Jon Hassell, the two albums share an unabashed openness to new sonic possibilities.) 34.00
EMAHOY TSEGE MARIAM GEBRU - Jerusalem LP (mississippi - Newly remastered recordings pressed on 160gm black vinyl, heavy jacket with reproduction of the 1972 artwork, song notes by the artist. From beloved composer Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru, a revelatory new album of piano pieces, unreleased or virtually inaccessible until now! Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru is a true original - an Ethiopian nun whose recordings have funded orphanages back home since the early '60s. Her compositions and unique playing style live somewhere between Erik Satie, Debussy, liturgical music of the Coptic Ethiopian Church, and Ethiopian traditional music. It is some of the most moving piano music you will ever hear. This is the first archival release of the great composer's recordings since the Éthiopiques series reintroduced her music to the world in 2006. Drawn from original master tapes and a nearly impossible-to-find vinyl release, Jerusalem unveils profound new facets of Emahoy Gebru's performance and compositions. The record picks up where the last two Mississippi releases left off, with tracks from her 1972 album Hymn of Jerusalem, of which only a handful of copies are known to exist. These include "Home of Beethoven," "Aurora," and a true masterpiece that stands amongst her greatest compositions, the moving "Jerusalem." "Quand La Mer Furieuse" is the first release featuring Emahoy's singing voice, forshadowing a vocal album planned for 2023. The B-Side brings us the artist's home recordings - tracks like "Farewell Eve," "Woigaye Don't Cry Anymore," and "Famine Disaster 1974" mark a bridge from liturgical work to dark and intense classical material, a new mode. This album is released in celebration of Emahoy Gebru's 99th birthday on December 12, 2022. Mississippi is honored to work with the Emahoy Tsege Mariam Music Publisher to continue to introduce this visionary composer to the world.) 25.00
FACS - Still Life In Decay LP (trouble in mind - Everything eventually turns to dust. Everyone knows this, but few want to acknowledge that our time on this mortal coil is fleeting, preferring to remain in stasis, in hopes that “the end” will pass them by. Chicago trio FACS have been perfecting their brand of intense, cathartic art rock over the course of four ever-evolving albums. Beginning with 2017’s “Negative Houses” thru 2021’s landmark “Present Tense’, which saw the trio dig deep into the gaping maw of a black hole & pulling back whatever debris they could grasp onto. Their newest “Still Life In Decay” comes as an addendum to the last album - a “post-event review” if you will. “Still Life In Decay” starts with a squall of white noise before collapsing into the band already locked into “Constellation”s lumbering groove, with Case’s guitar a ghostly presence, appearing & disappearing in washes of gauzy feedback throughout the track. FACS have never been more solidified as a unit, and “Still Life In Decay” is a decidedly focused effort. The apocalyptic chaos that defined their previous album “Present Tense” is waved away in favor of an examination of events with cumbrous clarity. ) 25.00
FELT - Bubblegum Perfume LP (1972 - Following a run with Cherry Red Records that featured a potential major label jump, guitarist Maurice Deebank quitting and rejoining multiple times, several pop stardom carrots just out of reach, mixing battles with Robin Guthrie, and a shocking entry into the record charts, Lawrence (just “Lawrence”, like “Cher” or “Madonna” thank you very much) knew he would be making a change with his band Felt. He would be seeing out his plan of ten albums and ten singles in ten years alongside a new partner in Creation Records. This compilation beautifully captures those years.) 32.00
FELT - Gold Mine Trash LP (1972 - Lawrence Hayward knew that he wanted to be a pop star as a teen, and he devised a plan to release ten albums and ten singles over ten years to make that dream come true. A particular and determined individual, he would only be known as Lawrence from that day forward. His hopes for stardom would be pinned on his newly formed band, the succinctly named Felt. Soon signed to Cherry Red Records, Lawrence’s achingly cool vocals and the group’s way with walking melodies were evident on their debut for the label, “Something Sends Me To Sleep.” This compilation collects material from Felt’s Cherry Red period of 1981 to 1985, kicking off with that confident start, assembling numerous high points, and closing with their biggest hit, “Primitive Painters.”This phase of the band is defined by the songwriting partnership and unique interplay of Lawrence and guitarist Maurice Deebank, with Deebank’s stylish and confident playing the envy of many of their counterparts. He delivers a constant string of shimmering hooks that wrap themselves around and over top of Lawrence’s more traditional beat combo song structures, as if trying to fit four songs worth of ideas into a pre-set radio friendly cutoff time. It works wonderfully as Lawrence always counters with a solid bedrock.) 32.00
FULL MOON ENSEMBLE - Crowded With Loneliness LP (comet - First reissue out of the Comet new reissue series of cult French Free Jazz LP from 1974 produced by Claude Delcloo, check the classic ‘samba miaou’, like a lost Pharoah Sanders tune mixed with politically-engaged French poetry but the whole LP is varied, avant-garde and spiritual now available as Vinyl LP with Gatefold cover, set to become collectible as the original is impossible to find. A French Free Jazz Band, the Full Moon Ensemble was born at the end of the 60s under the leadership of the versatile and ubiquitous Claude Delcloo. Delcloo was an eminent drummer who played and recorded with Jazz legends such as Archie Shepp, Arthur Jones, Jacques Coursil or Burton Greene. He was also a smart producer and the co-founder of the Actuel/Byg and AKT labels which helped release timeless underground, progressive Jazz records by some of the most creative young talents living in France back then (Grachan Moncur, Art Ensemble Of Chicago, Sun Ra Arkestra, Moving Gelatine Plates, Rhesus O, Cane & Able, etc …). Delcloo’s visionary mind is still up-to-date at the beginning of the 21st century!) 32.00
FUZZ - III LP (in the red - One only knows one. Two is balanced therefore stagnant. III both active and reactive. Charles Moothart, Ty Segall and Chad Ubovich are FUZZ. FUZZ is three. And III has returned. Songs for all, and music for one. III was recorded and mixed at United Recording under the sonic lordship of Steve Albini. Keeping the focus on the live sounds of the band, the use of overdubs and studio tricks were kept to a minimum. Albini’s mastery in capturing sound gave FUZZ the ability to focus entirely on the playing while knowing the natural sounds would land. It takes the essential ingredients of “guitar based music” and “rock and roll power trio” and puts them right out on the chopping block. It was a much more honest approach for FUZZ -- three humans getting primitive, staying primitive. The goal was never to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes it’s just about seeing how long you can hold on before you’re thrown off.) 26.00
GARETH QUINN REDMOND - Ar Ais Arís LP (wrwtfww - WRWTFWW Records is overjoyed to announce Ar Ais Arís, the third album by Irish producer Gareth Quinn Redmond, following his amazing Satoshi Ashikawa-inspired Laistigh Den Ghleo released in 2019 and this year’s ambient-meets-Irish-traditional-music soundscape Umcheol. The 8-track LP comes as a limited edition of 500 copies worldwide with an artwork by Dublin artist Barry Gibbons and liner notes from Gareth Quinn Redmond himself. It is available in digital format as well. Ar Ais Arís is Gareth Quinn Redmond’s fortuitous love affair with the art of tape loops - a practice he discovered while performing with Ross Chaney and Myles O’Reilly in late November 2020. Fascinated, he spent months experimenting with the technique: "By cracking open the shell of a cassette, cutting the tape and splicing the ends together, I created repeating sound loops of varying lengths. After reassembling and slotting the cassette into the Tascam Portastudio, I recorded and played back the sounds of the tape loop. These sounds were then manipulated using the pitch wheel to make subtle and warbly inflections to the recordings. This is achieved by speeding up or slowing down the playback speed of the tape, which offers dynamic contrasts in both mood and texture." The result is 8 deliciously enchanting minimalistic tape loops creating a very rare kind of daydreaming environmental music full of accidental miracles and dusty soothing backdrops. It’s a very very very pleasant listening experience inspiring a feeling of enveloping warmth and gentle coziness, with an uncanny touch of spellbinding magic. Press play. ) 27.00
JINGO DE LUNCH - Perpetuum Mobile LP (raditation - All the way from Kreuzberg, Berlin, 1987: this is the fully remastered reissue for JINGO DE LUNCH debut album, one of un undisputed classics of European 80's hardcore punk. Originally released on the We Bite label from Germany, this relentless 11-tracker of female-fronted, bad brains-inspired metal-hc crossover still sounds as tight and agressive as it did 35 years ago. Released in full cooperation with the band's original members, this first-ever vinyl reissue comes in limited color vinyl, with OBI strip, poster and double sided original insert replica. 2023 remaster by Danilo SIlvestri at Green Mountain Audio studios, in Rome Italy. Limited to 500 copies only on orange vinyl!) 23.00
JOSEPHINE FOSTER - Domestic Sphere LP (fire - For her austere new solo album, Domestic Sphere, Josephine Foster performs solely with her electric guitar and then subverts the usual range of her voice to embody other frequencies and sounds beyond the surface layer of the songs. She communes so completely with every sound on the record, with the past and the future, animals and insects and birds, those so tenderly dead, and those of us who are alive. Listening to the record is a transcendent experience. It's an exorcism, one that exorcises you. Domestic Sphere, produced by Foster and collaborator Daniel Blumberg, is an altar cloth of songs stitched together as liturgical music for a restless homestead, whose values insist simply that everything is music and that our daily life is a sacred, innately creative practice. In such a world creaking door reveal natural orchestras with wailing cats in service of melodic collaborations with Tennessee songbirds, Foster's world is an extra-sensory radio play in two acts, where songs overlay structures like creeping vines. A seance by song, Josephine channels sounds from her interior and exterior landscapes, whether integrating field recordings reflecting daily life in a Spanish village and other moments in her life as a nomadic musician, or, as in one tender cameo, the voice of her great-grandmother comes from the other side. These songs are vigils, melodies sung intently, to be set aflame and sung off with the wind. "Powerful and eccentric" Pitchfork "A dreamily unique talent" The Guardian) 29.00
JOYCE STREET - Tied Down LP (numero - A ’70s homemaker stuck between the studio and getting dinner on the table, Joyce Street eked out an arresting countrypolitan discography in the margins of an otherwise traditional American life. With lyrics drawn from the pages of her diary, Street’s stirring Mississippi warble led her into the fly-by-night world of custom studios, cutting tracks for upstart country concerns like Reena, Sonobeat, Revelation, and Arc. Channeling the honky tonk angel energy of Bobbie Gentry, Lorretta Lynn, and Jeannie C. Riley, Tied Down compiles a decade’s worth of melodies disguised as lottery tickets.) 27.00
LA MONTE YOUNG / MARIAN ZAZEELA – 31 VII 69 10:26 - 10:49 PM / 23 VIII 64 2:50:45 - 3:11 AM The Volga Delta LP (superior - La Monte Young was born in Bern, Idaho in 1935. He began his music studies in Los Angeles and later Berkeley, California before relocating to New York City in 1960, where he became a primary influence on Minimalism, the Fluxus movement and performance art through his legendary compositions of extended time durations and the development of just intonation and rational number based tuning systems. With wife and collaborator, artist Marian Zazeela, they would formulate the composite sound environments of the Dream House, which continues to this day. Seeing reissue for the first time since its initial 1969 release, Young and Zazeela's first full-length album is often referred to as "The Black Record" due to Zazeela's stunning cover design, complete with the composer's liner notes in elegant hand-lettered script.) 32.00
LINEKRAFT - Chaos State LP (total black - On a truly incredible run which shows no signs of slowing down, “Chaos State” is the latest full length from Linekraft. Using the skeleton of material from the extremely limited Chaos State I and II cassettes, these eight tracks were reconstructed from 2018-2022: the resulting audio should serve as industrial anthems for revolutions new and old. “This is industrial music that records the state of mind of a lone wolf who was witnessed by a man. I tried to find “the way” with digging up my own CHAOS, REVOLUTION and GREED. Isolate Yourself.” - Masahiko Okubo 2022) 25.00
MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO. - Sojourner 4xLP BOXSET (secretly - For the first time on vinyl and returning from a long time out-of-print, Secretly Canadian is proud to re-present The Sojourner Box Set from Magnolia Electric Co.The four LPs that comprise The Sojourner Box Set are from four distinct recording sessions that Magnolia Electric Co. undertook following the release of their debut studio album, What Comes After The Blues. From these, sophomore album Fading Trails was born. But the four sessions, in full, chart the celestial map of Magnolia Electric Co.: its constellations and shooting stars, its Americana stompers and lean folk dirges. And, of course, the center of gravity that is Jason Molina’s mournful, incomparable voice.) 148.00
MATS ERLANDSSON – Gyttjans Topografi LP (xkatedral - Swedish drone alchemist Mats Erlandsson is sitting in a fictional room on ‘Gyttjans Topografi’, imagining a virtual chamber orchestra using zithers, tapes, double bass, harmonium, organ, and various synthesisers to draft a treatise on alternative tuning and non-normative harmonic structures. Transcendent material. “The music on this recording is performed by a kind of fictitious chamber ensemble situated in an imaginary room outlined by textures that alternate between gestural foreground and passive landscape. The three pieces contained within this release are tied together by sharing similar harmonic material and instrumentation and could ideally be perceived as parts of one long performance stretching through the two sides of the record. The textural room in which this musical performance operates is unreliable, unstable, constantly shifting in size and activity from sparse and open to dense and claustrophobic. Inside this non-euclidean performance space a chamber ensemble made up of zithers expanded through analog tape transposition, harmonium and organ, double bass, digital FM, feedback-convolution and Serge modular synthesizer perform a music made from justly tuned intervals arranged in a way that blurs the distinction between traditional minor and major tonal harmony in favour of harmonic progression within an essentially modal framework.) 32.00
MELANIE - Cri D'Amour LP (comet - True concept albums are actually few and far between. While it can be said that The Who’s Tommy and Quadrophenia, Pink Floyd’s The Wall and Lou Reed and John Cale’s Songs For Drella were designed from the ground up, that’s not necessarily the case for equally mythical, yet composite, albums such as Bowie’s The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars and Diamond Dogs, or Lou Reed’s Berlin. In France, the genre established its pedigree in the 1970s with Gainsbourg’s Histoire de Melody Nelson and L’homme à tête de chou, then in the early 1980s with Léo Ferré’s L’Opéra du pauvre. Mélanie Chédeville’s Cri d'amour adds to this list of albums that tell a story through characters. Cri d'amour was produced in a seaside setting, which may explain its flowing, organic character – and the fact that it deviates from electronic music in spite of its title’s homophony with Guy-Manuel De Homem Christo (of Daft Punk fame) and Éric Chédeville’s foundational French Touch label Crydamoure. This fact might not be so fortuitous since the name was, among other things, about the deep friendship between the two boys – and its brutal end, which was not withoutrepercussions.) 28.00
QUICKSAND - Slip LP (iodine -evergreen vinyl - Available for the first time in over a decade, the 30th anniversary edition of "Slip" was completely remastered for vinyl using the original, 1993 master tapes and includes bonus track "How Soon is Now?" The jacket artwork was reconstructed using original art elements and color improvements. "Slip" was recorded by Quicksand members Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Youth Of Today), Tom Capone (Beyond, Bold), Sergio Vega (Deftones, Moondog), and Alan Cage (Beyond, Seaweed), and co-produced by Steven Haigler (Pixies) and Don Fury (Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front)) 35.00
RICHARD YOUNGS - Modern Sorrow LP (black truffle - The endlessly prolific and unpredictable Richard Youngs returns to Black Truffle with Modern Sorrow. As any Youngs fan knows, one of the great pleasures of following his career comes from not being able to predict what the next entry in his inexhaustible string of releases will bring: Unaccompanied voice? Country songs? Shakuhachi? Guitar pieces played with his feet? Shredding fuzz bass over the top of hyper-speed distorted drum machine beats? Continuing in the grand Youngs tradition of exploring new techniques, instrumentation and approaches while bringing to all of them his idiosyncratic touch, Modern Sorrow serves up two sides of twistedly elegiac, radically stark takes on contemporary pop production.) 28.00
ROSS GENTRY - September LP (oscarsson - Music and alcohol are one of life’s Perfect Pairings, but seldom are artists and beverage specialists as perfectly in alignment as they are here. Working through the audio imprint Ceremony of Seasons, Asheville, North Carolina’s Ross Gentry has teamed with Asheville’s VISUALS Wine to produce the first entry in the Ritual of Senses Wine Club. September is specifically designed to match Sink Into Seclusion, described as “a Mendocino grown, amphora aged, skin contact Sauvignon Blanc wine,” the follow-up to last year’s Sink Into Solitude Sauvignon Blanc, just as September is the follow-up to Gentry’s Absence Recorded on Longform Editions. An additional bonus is the seasonal aspect of the series. The wine and music are released today at the seasonal equinox. To listen to an album called September while drinking the wine is like seeing all of the planets align. Sink Into Seclusion (yes, I am drinking and writing) is smooth and aromatic, offering hints of apple and peach. The wine yields just the right amount of sweetness, pairs well with pecans, and tastes best slightly chilled. At first the name sounds lonely, but the equinox is a time of contemplation, as when one realizes summer, at least in name, is over. Today holds a top note of fragility, chased by an undercurrent of cyclical awareness.) 30.00
SERGIO DIAZ DE ROJAS - Muerte en una tarde de verano DLP (oscarsson - Sergio Díaz De Rojas has had music in his blood since he was born. Raised in a family of musicians, the Peruvian composer took inspiration from his grandfather and his grandfather’s sister, both accomplished pianists and composers. It was the latter relative —his great aunt Elsa— who first taught Sergio classical piano and became the guiding force in his musical development, introducing him to Bach and Chopin when he was 11. Several years later, tragedy struck the family. Sergio was bewildered when his grandfather, a musical genius who played for diverse orchestras and bands in Peru, took his own life. “I remember that my mom tried to hide the truth from me, but he was a public figure so the news was everywhere and I eventually found out,” he recalls. “Naturally, I was sad to lose my grandpa, but I think I was too young to understand what it truly meant to lose someone you love in such a tragic and unexpected way”. Though fifteen years have elapsed, Sergio found himself meditating on that formative loss as he composed his second full-length album, Muerte en una tarde de verano, due out March 10 via NETTWERK. A drifting song cycle of spare, contemplative piano, Muerte en una tarde de verano (or Death in a Summer’s Afternoon) is suffused in melancholy but resists giving into despair. ) 27.00
SOFT KILL - Heresy LP (cercle social - SOFT KILL's 2015 Heresy album now available on colored vinyl. "Portland’s Post-Punk outfit Soft Kill have dropped a new album, and a really good one at that! The sound of their new record “Heresy” has traces of Interpol, like on the opening track “Grandview”. The record’s overall feel also has strong underlying similarities to classic 80s Coldwave and Post Punk—perhaps like The Comsat Angels, but maybe more so like “Second Empire Justice” from Blitz (Listen to the track “Current” for example)."—post-punk.com) 32.00
SOFT KILL - Choke LP (cercle social - Portland’s Soft Kill began in 2010 by releasing An Open Door, one of the most highly regarded post-punk albums of the last ten years. Founding member Tobias Sinclair (ex-Blessure Grave) joins Conrad Vollmer (Warm Hands) on guitar, drummer Maximillion Avalon (Chromatics, Antioch Arrow, Get Hustle, Atriarch) and Owen Glendower on synths for their fourth album Choke, an eight song suite. This follows on the heels of 2015’s Heresy, which was much more claustrophobic and oppressive than their debut. Rooted in influences such as the Chameleons, Wire and The Sound, this latest album pulls delicately from foundational elements of the Cocteau Twins and Spaceman 3. It places the listener deeply under water, gasping for breath and beyond hope with tracks like “On The Inside,” featuring the vocals of legendary Mark Burgess of the Chameleons. Drawing from the first wave of post punk, the songs slip seamlessly into the cascading and ethereal elements of early shoegaze.) 32.00
VIDEO-AVENTURES - Musiques Pour Garçons Et Filles + Inédits DLP (souffle - After the experience of Camizole, Dominique Grimaud began a new (and different) adventure in 1979 with Monique Alba. Alongside Gilbert Artman (Urban Sax), Guigou Chenevier (Etron Fou, Leloublan), Jean-Pierre Grasset (Verto) and Cyril Lefebvre (Maajun), Vidéo-Aventures is composed of instrumentals capable of reconciliating Captain Beefheart, Henry Cow, Suicide and… John Barry. All with the backing of Rock In Opposition, which enabled this Musiques pour Garçons et Filles to become known worldwide. “Let us enter your hearts”: is the request made by Vidéo-Aventures, and how can we refuse? Especially as Musiques pour garçons et filles, recorded by Dominique Grimaud and Monique Alba fifty years ago along with handpicked colleagues, is as fresh as ever. ) 34.00
WEDNESDAY - I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone LP (dead oceans - re issues - I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone is Wednesday’s second full-length album & first as a full band. The Asheville, NC quintet (guitarist/vocalist Karly Hartzman, lead guitarist Daniel Gorham, pedal steel guitarist Xandy Chelmis, bassist Margo Schultz & drummer Alan Miller) maximizes the dark dissonance of a three guitar attack to highlight the emotionality of Hartzman’s bell-clear vocals & wisps of half-recalled memories & literary references that make up her lyrics. I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone’s eight songs meld elements of shoegaze, grunge, indie pop & southern American culture into a uniquely personal style of modern rock music that resonates with power & tenderness.) 27.00
WEDNESDAY - Twin Plagues LP (dead oceans - re issue - In a long and emotionally exhausting year of being inside (alone, in my case,) I have found myself thinking about mirrors. How to avoid spending too much time in them, most days. Taking inventory of the real, physical self is difficult work, work that I’m not entirely opposed to but work that became immediately more treacherous for me when I had to witness the very real toll that time, modern anxieties, isolation, and boredom were taking on me. It was easier, it seemed, to spiral into a not-so-distant glorious past, to use memory as a tool of both excitement and healing. ) 27.00
WEDNESDAY - Rat Saw God LP (dead ocean s- A Wednesday song is a quilt. A short story collection, a half-memory, a patchwork of portraits of the American south, disparate moments that somehow make sense as a whole. Karly Hartzman, the songwriter/vocalist/guitarist at the helm of the project, is a story collector as much as she is a storyteller: a scholar of people and one-liners. Rat Saw God, the Asheville quintet’s new and best record, is ekphrastic but autobiographical and above all, deeply empathetic. Across the album’s ten tracks Hartzman, guitarist MJ Lenderman, bassist Margo Shultz, drummer Alan Miller, and lap/pedal steel player Xandy Chelmis build a shrine to minutiae. Half-funny, half-tragic dispatches from North Carolina unfurling somewhere between the wailing skuzz of Nineties shoegaze and classic country twang, that distorted lap steel and Hartzman’s voice slicing through the din. ) 27.00

MICHÈLE BOKANOWSKI - Musiques de Concert 4xCD BOXSET (Passionate about music from childhood, it wasn't until later, at the age of 22, after reading À la recherche d'une musique concrète by Pierre Schaeffer, that she decided to study composition. After classical training in harmony, she met Michel Puig, a pupil of René Leibowitz, who taught her writing and analysis upon Schönberg Theory. In 1970, she began a two-year internship at the Research Department of the ORTF under the direction of Pierre Schaeffer. Between 1973 and 1975, she took part in a research group on sound synthesis, studied computer music at the University of Vincennes as well as electronic music with Éliane Radigue. She mainly composes for concert and for cinema (music for Patrick Bokanowski's short films and for his feature films L'Ange and Un Rêve solaire). She has also composed for television, theatre and dance. In her music, often infused with a mysterious atmosphere, she uses evocative and poetic concrete sounds, with a mastery of looping and feedback techniques and with an art of cinematic editing.) 40.00

THE VOLUME SETTING FOLDERS - Lost Topographies 1-2 CD-R (oscarson - CDR in a gatefold sleeve with an handmade insert + dlc - limited to 20 copies. I sketched this double album during a very stressful time for me personally, back in 2021. When Matthias at Oscarson asked if I was interested in a double vinyl collaboration I was immediately enthusiastic, and I thought it was the perfect way to start revisiting some long-form pieces, which when I finished this album led me to the spring/summer tabletop free-form explorations collected in Ghosts In The Heat.
I have to admit to a personal favorite of mine, Stained Relics. Initially composed with only a very degraded, Basinski-nodding loop, it became something else in post production with a casual insertion of a second, off-tempo loop that created a call and response, which slowly but steady approaches synchronism with the first loop. This is the sort of happy accidents that I strive for.
Lost Topographies I - II is an ode to my land and other unvisited lands in Italy, which I long to visit but probably never will. So is my nature) 14.00

DINOSAUR JR. - Hand It Over TAPE (radiation - "Formed in 1984, Dinosaur Jr carved a singular path through the latter half of the 1980s and first half of the 1990s, issuing a number of highly influential albums in the process. Hand It Over, their seventh record, appeared in the spring of 1997 following a lengthy absence, and would prove to be the band's final album-length offering for a decade. Performed primarily by J Mascis, Hand It Over appeared at a time of declining international interest in American alternative rock, but nevertheless received widespread approval and appreciation amongst critics and reviewers. The album was accompanied, unusually, by an EP of non-album songs recorded for the Matt Dillon movie Grace Of My Heart and, later, a vinyl only I'm Insane 7" single, all of which are collected here alongside previously unreleased recordings made on stage in Stockholm and on TV in Australia. Presented here on purple vinyl, and accompanied by in-depth sleevenotes from Mojo's Keith Cameron (based on recent and exclusive interviews with J Mascis), this edition provides a final view of a band about to disappear from the limelight but still as engaging and powerful as ever.“) 12.00
DINOSAUR JR - where you been TAPE (radiation - DInosaur Jr's monumental noise was a crucible of raging riffs and emotive melody, an unlikely fusion of speaker-blowing feedback and catchy hooks. Post-punk and pre-grunge, they were an intense force to be reckoned with, and when the band signed to Sire in '91, J Mascis's shreddingly unique alt-rock sound was cranked up for vast new audiences of eardrums. These albums spotlight one of the most distinctive and influential artists of the '90s in prime form. Each release presents the original album on 180-gram vinyl. "Where You Been" includes the yearning, burning classic "Out There", the rock radio hit "Start Choppin", plus the stand-outs "Get Me", "Hide", and "Not The Same“) 12.00
DINOSAUR JR - Without A Sound TAPE (radiation - Formed in 1984, Dinosaur Jr carved a singular path through the latter half of the 1980s and early 1990s, issuing a number of highly influential albums in the process before finding a home with Sire Records. “Without A Sound”, their sixth record, emerged in the summer of 1994, in the wake of personal bereavement and the departure of longtime drummer and founder member Murph. Performed primarily by J Mascis, “Without A Sound” continued the band’s growth in popularity and commercial achievement, reaching #44 in the US (their highest ever album placing there) and featuring the hit singles ‘Feel The Pain’ and ‘I Don’t Think So’.Released to positive reviews, “Without A Sound” also took Dinosaur Jr around the world, including dates in Australia, New Zealand and Japan, and into the mainstream as the group contributed ‘Blah’ to the hit US TV show Melrose Place.) 12.00
