LP

ALVA NOTO & RYUICHI SAKAMOTO - Utp_ DLP (virus - Released for the first time in 2009, ‘utp_’ is the third installment of Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s V.I.R.U.S.'s series. It was commissioned for the 400th anniversary of Mannheim, Germany. The flowing 10-section multimedia work derives its shape from a rasterized structure of the southwestern city, founded in 1608. The recording documents the work’s debut performed by Ensemble Modern at the National Theatre in Mannheim. The music embraces the electronic, piano-based palettes, an expanded array of avant-garde chamber instrumentation and natural timbres. It combined the digital visual score created by Carsten Nicolai and Simon Mayer, and lighting design by Nigel Edwards.) 35.00

ANGELO HARMSWORTH - Singe LP ("Singe" is the new record by Angelo Harmsworth, a musician who hails from the American Southwest and is operating now out of Berlin. Harmsworth’s work deals resolutely in extremes, but this music is not concerned with presenting binary or dichotomous relationships so much as it is with reconciling disparate sensibilities and sounds. Layers of meticulously edited and sculpted tones swirl around one another, creating kaleidoscopic patterns and hallucinated choral motifs that seem to thrive on amplitude or the position of the listener’s head. There is a visceral physicality to this music that aligns it with some of the core tenets of harsh noise, even while its tonal and timbral choices recall those of ambient music. This record follows excellent releases on enmossed/Psychic Liberation, Angoisse, Opal Tapes, and Harmsworth’s own Lime Lodge imprint and may be the high water mark of his published output thus far. There is drama and implied narrative in these seven compositions that seethes and hums as if reveling in a sort of violent gracefulness.) 24.00

COUNT OSSIE & THE MYSTIC REVELATION OF RASTAFARI - Grounation 3xLP (soul jazz - An unimpeachable classic considered to be the pinnacle of Rastafarian inspired music. Master drummer Count Ossie's band, including the incomparable tenor saxophonist Cedric 'I'm' Brooks, recreate a Rasta grounation, or gathering, playing and chanting a sublime supplication, including Bible readings, in praise of Emperor Haile Selassie I.) 43.00

THE DRIN -  Down River In The Distance  LP (mangle - THE DRIN, Dylan Mccartney's from The Serfs reductionist solo recording endeavor, now turn into a 6-7 piece live band of fucking chaos, has unleashed the huge dark post-punk power of "Down River in the Distance". An unexpected obcure paranoic masterpiece, where is also involved his Serfs' colleague Dakota Carlyle, that in Dylan's own words, "It's meant to be a cursed, degraded composition to accompany a forlorn journey along a river, with strange images just out of sight... like a dream“.) 17.00

ENTOMBED - Morning Star LP (Morning Star is the seventh full-length album by Swedish metal band Entombed, and was released in 13 September 2001. The album is more experimental than previous efforts, and shows the band returning to a more traditional death metal sound overall, though without completely abandoning elements of death 'n' roll. The album also introduces a handful of straightforward, fast-paced death/thrash tracks, a first for the band at the time. The album received a stellar review from AllMusic, ending with the recommendation: "Any fan of quality underground metal should find this to be a superb effort from an underrated band.“) 26.00

FULL MOON ENSEMBLE - Crowded With Loneliness LP (comet - First reissue out of the Comet new reissue series of cult French Free Jazz LP from 1974 produced by Claude Delcloo, check the classic ‘samba miaou’, like a lost Pharoah Sanders tune mixed with politically-engaged French poetry but the whole LP is varied, avant-garde and spiritual now available as Vinyl LP with Gatefold cover, set to become collectible as the original is impossible to find. A French Free Jazz Band, the Full Moon Ensemble was born at the end of the 60s under the leadership of the versatile and ubiquitous Claude Delcloo. Delcloo was an eminent drummer who played and recorded with Jazz legends such as Archie Shepp, Arthur Jones, Jacques Coursil or Burton Greene. He was also a smart producer and the co-founder of the Actuel/Byg and AKT labels which helped release timeless underground, progressive Jazz records by some of the most creative young talents living in France back then (Grachan Moncur, Art Ensemble Of Chicago, Sun Ra Arkestra, Moving Gelatine Plates, Rhesus O, Cane & Able, etc …). Delcloo’s visionary mind is still up-to-date at the beginning of the 21st century!) 32.00

IMPRECATION - In Nomine Diaboli LP (dark descent - The name IMPRECATION echoes forth from Hell once again in the form of In Nomine Diaboli. As a direct follow-up to their acclaimed Damnatio Ad Bestias, this will prove to be the band's darkest and most regal album yet. Tendrils of pure evil will engulf the listener with Satanic hymns that recall the greatest days of Deicide and Morbid Angel. IMPRECATION's own version of this venerable death metal tradition brings forth moments ranging from blistering and relentless to crushingly heavy, and all shall yield in their wake. Do not mistake this for "old school death metal"; this is death metal the way it was always intended - powerful, malevolent, and uncompromising. Give yourself over in the name of the Devil to experience IMPRECATION at the height of their powers.) 30.00

JOE TOSSINI AND FRIENDS - Lady Of Mine LP (efficient - Lady of Mine is the 1989 debut LP by self-made Italian-American Joe Tossini. An astoundingly honest, passionate record of cosmopolitan lounge music, he willed this charming suburban oddity into existence without any formal musical training. Sicilian by birth, Tossini drifted around the world between Italy, Germany and Canada, before finally settling in New Jersey. After the passing of his mother and the breakdown of a second marriage, an anxious and depressed Tossini took to songwriting as a form of therapy, crafting disarmingly candid lyrics from his extraordinary life and loves. Whatever industry savvy or musical virtuosity he lacked was made up for by unflinching resourcefulness and infectious charisma. Befriending bandleader Peppino Lattanzi at local club The Rickshaw Inn, he was encouraged to animate his singular songs with an ambitious cast of 9 players and 5 backing vocalists, sincerely credited as his Friends. ) 24.00

JOHNNY WALKER - Advent LP (jazz room - Recorded when Johnny Walker was touring Worldwide with Veteran Jazz Star Lionel Hampton in 1982 and originally released on his own Private Press label: Walk On Productions. This neglected underground classic LP has been off the radar since then except for the appearance of "Dipping" on the Kev Beadle – Private Collection (Independent Jazz Sounds From The Seventies And Eighties) compilation on BBE Records. Almost unknown and unjustly negected, it's a funk drenched jazz journey with some crunchy fat beats laid down by the excellent rhythm section complementing Johnny Walkers cool horn stylings.) 25.00

RESTRICTION - Action LP (lantern - Although Bristol Archive Records has done its best to expose their music to a wider audience, Restriction remain an unknown pleasure to many reggae fans. Hopefully 2015 will see this change with the release of an album of previously unreleased recordings spanning the group's active years -1982 to 1986. Restriction had their roots at the start of the 1980s in Zion Band, a group put together as a backing band for a publicly funded musical aimed at reducing the then chronic unemployment rate among young adults. The results of this state funded endeavour were much better than the idea might sound on paper and can be heard on Bristol Archive's “Bristol Reggae Explosion” series. Once it came time to move on, the core members of Zion Band formed a new group, Restriction. Unusually for the time, the group was multi racial and would also come to employ both a male and female lead vocalist. ) 25.00

SAM PREKOP - The Sparrow LP (TAL - "Is it too Sam Prekop?", Sam Prekop asked me in an email conversation in which he delivered his wonderful illustrations which would become the front cover artwork. No, it is not too Sam Prekop at all. His drawings as well as the freeform music on this album are subtly different from anything else he has produced in his solo career. Regardless of the style he is working in, Sam Prekop’s music is always imbued with a sense of wide-eyed discovery and unpredictable exploration. On »The Sparrow« Sam Prekop expands his electronic cosmos with a remarkable expression of timeless simplicity and coherent execution. It's deceptively simple music that feels accessible without abandoning the experimental legacy of the Modular hardware system which serves, besides a polyphonic Prophet 5 synthesizer, as the center piece of this production. The side long title track opens this album with unpredictable synth dissonances and broken step sequenced patterns. »Palm« brings the set to a close with its irregular fragility while »Fall is Farewell« is build around a yearning brassy fanfare which resembles the noir romance theme of Michael Smalls soundtrack for the 1971 film »Klute«. The sparkling essence of »Step and Stair« seems a suitable space for unforgotten summer holidays of our childhood. ) 26.00

SIAVASH AMINI & EUGENE THACKER - Songs for Sad Poets DLP (clear vinyl) (hollow ground - Composer and sound artist Siavash Amini collaborates with author Eugene Thacker on »Songs for Sad Poets.« The collection of eight pieces draws its inspiration from the legacy of the so-called cursed poets (»poètes maudits«) as well as the German-language tradition of song cycles and expands the structure of the classic art song through a process of lyric abstraction. Amini is no stranger to interdisciplinary collaboration, as seen in »A Mimesis of Nothingness,« his 2020 collaboration with photographer Nooshin Shafiee, also released through the Swiss Hallow Ground label. But whereas in Amini’s previous collaborations music and other media are set in dialogue, with »Songs for Sad Poets«, Thacker’s poems and Amini’s soundscapes are deeply enmeshed with each other. In fact, none of the words printed in the record’s booklet are being said out loud on this double LP, but rather made tangible through the use of sound. Poetry and music do not so much correspond with each other as they conspire together—as songs without words, words without song. ) 33.00

SPECTRAL VOICE -  Eroded Corridors of Unbeing LP (dark descent - After no less than five demos/rehearsals and two splits, Colorado’s SPECTRAL VOICE are finally crossing the Styx and delivering their first proper full-length…and it is gigantic. While things appear quite straight-forward on paper (the band has never hidden their love of roughly mixing early and down tuned Finnish death metal with extreme doom in an acid bath) there’s something quite unique about them. Instead of weakening their impact, their rawness and vast sound only emphasizes their genuine thirst for darkness. ) 30.00

STAATSEINDE - Fehlerlinie LP (medical - Medical Records is honored to release the first full LP by Dutch cosmic explorers Staatseinde. Formed in 2006, Staatseinde have released a multitude of cassettes, singles as well as a CDR album in 2012. “Fehlerlinie” represents the culmination of a very productive couple of years including stellar performances at the streaming IFM Fest, the release of compelling collaboration tapes and other releases. Though impossible to confine to a single genre or style, their music can be described as a captivating fusion of electro-pop, electro-clash and robotic punk/wave. Each and every track carefully chosen for this LP is a dancefloor ripper. Plug in enjoy the journey.) 28.00

TARO NOHARA - Poly-Time Soundscapes / Forest Of The Shrine LP (Poly-Time Soundscapes / Forest Of The Shrine is a brand new release by Japanese producer Taro Nohara (Yakenohara). 8 tracks of pure environmental ambient bliss available on LP housed in a heavy 350gsm sleeve with an artwork from the artist himself. Based in Tokyo, Taro Nohara is a producer, beatmaker, DJ, and music activist who made a mark with his electronic / ambient unit Unknown Me ( (of Not Not Fun Records fame). His new solo project, Poly-Time Soundscapes / Forest Of The Shrine, is a unique and modern take on Japanese environmental music, a free floating re-interpretation of the sub-genre made famous by Midori Takada, Hiroshi Yoshimura, or Satoshi Ashikawa (and more!) fused with subtle nuances of various origins: downtempo, hip hop, sound design, chill-out, experimental. ) 26.00

DIE VERLIERER - s/t LP (mangel - back in stock - New Postpunk band from Berlin with peeps of Chuckamuck & Die Maske. Bass-driven, raw and NDW influenced Postpunk that transfer you straight in the 1980s in Berlin.) 17.00

CD

PAULINE OLIVEROS - Reverberations: Tape & Electronic Music 1960 -1970 11xCD BOXSET (important - "Through Pauline Oliveros and Deep Listening, I now know what harmony is. It's about the pleasure of making music." ~ John Cage "This monumental box set collects the work of the 80-year-old composer, teacher, and electronic music pioneer: Reverberations fills a dozen discs in almost as many hours, laying substantial groundwork for every electronic drone artist and harsh noise terrorist to come." Pitchfork) 90.00

VALERIO TRICOLI -  Say Goodbye To The Wind CD (shelter - First emerging during the early years of the new millennium, over the last two decades, the Palermo born, Munich based composer, Valerio Tricoli, has forged a singular path within experimental sound practice, continuously rethinking the relationship between electroacoustic composition and narrative possibility. Say Goodbye to the Wind, his first LP with Shelter Press, stands among his most poetic and groundbreaking efforts to date. Across three intricate, deeply personal works of concrète music - dense with themes drawn from J.G. Ballard, Samuel Beckett, theosophy, and the temporal blur of DMT - the composer blurs the boundaries between the tangible and abstract, weaving complex allegories for the self. ) 20.00

TAPES

BEIGE BANQUET - s/t TAPE (mangel - back in stock - London post-punk group Beige Banquet have a new EP. The self-titled 4-track EP is available on 10″ from their own label Just Step Sideways, or on cassette from Mangel in Berlin. Will remind you of Canadian group N0V3L or Pigeon from Germany.
